As we enter ao3 donation season I am going to make this post.
every time people get upset that ao3 is asking for donations. Note: they need that money to keep the site running. You do not have to agree that people are donating but also, people will use their money as they please. You do not need to agree with all the content on ao3 (trust me I do not like a lot of it)
However: Ao3 is the only ACTUAL true heaven of fanfics in this day and age. Fanfiction.net has a history of purges, and it seems like wattpad is doing the same.
Ao3 is against censorship, so yes this means some really gross shit in on the site, but also everything is there. We live in a world where advertisers are driving "adult content" off the web. More and more are we seeing sexual content removed from places, you can't say dick on tiktok. But, ao3 allows all of that. Further more, with ao3 being a non algorithm site and you being able to filter in what you want and don't it makes it more accessible. Also it is nice to tag it a whole bunch.
There is a lot of bad shit going on in the world, even more then what even tumblr is talking about. It is legit bad to have your mind 24/7 on that shit. Just because someone donated to ao3 doesn't mean they didn't donate else where.
People need to have fun and joy in their life, and they pick ao3. Also ao3 is "noncommercial and nonprofit"
