They were so much fun to draw as part of our latest Block Party, I’m glad I got the chance to pass our OCs around! Epidote’s story is really compelling, thanks for sharing them with the world!

It's our 41st anniversary -- so we're having a block party, and you're invited! Come hang out with us and join the celebration.
The Neighborhood Files
Lost in the pageantry of last night's Olympics Opening Ceremony is another event of equal bombast, that being the 83rd Street Block Party! (The ! is part of the name and is trademarked), which is to be held today-- unsurprisingly, on 83rd street. Now many of you (or at least some of you who are bothering to read this) are no doubt saying, "I think you are exaggerating, Dave." But in truth there are some eerie similarities. For example, the Olympics Ceremony had a huge, burning torch. The Block Party! has a short, spewing fire hydrant. The Olympics had Buckingham Palace. The Block Party! has a bouncy castle. The Olympics had the Spice Girls. The Block Party! has a DJ playing the greatest hits of last year's Block Party! The Block Party! has a series of intense competitions, too. For example, there's the Silly String Vandalism Relay, the Beer Bottle Throw and the Cheating Spouse Slapping Marathon. And don't think we don't have our share of scandals, either, unless you're unfamiliar with the Tomato Garden Growth Hormone Controversy of 2006. It got nasty, let me tell you. Which brings me to 8:10 am, Eastern Daylight Time. This is the point in the day when my wife and I begin training for OUR favorite event: the Block Party! Avoidance 16-hour Sprint. We're 6-time, gold medal winners I'll have you know.
Block Party Update
...and out comes the karaoke machine.
I will say no more.
Block Party!
I am really unsure how I came to hate block parties. I mean, who is more of a party animal than me (or is it I)?
I don’t know, either.
But I hate them and all their bounce-castle, firetruck-climbing, facepainting glory.
And the Silly String™. O, the Silly String™! I’m still trying to clean that godforsaken stuff from my sidewalk since the Big One back in 2002.
And then there’s the DJ. Since I live in the middle in the block, it is only natural that the DJ would want to set up his earthquake-inducing speakers right outside my window.
But not to worry. My wife and I take turns working a jackhammer in our livingroom in the hopes of drowning out the same hackneyed, 70s disco songs that they have been playing since, well, the 70s.
But thankfully, there will be The Electric Slide. And The Electric Cha-Cha, The Electric Cotton-Eyed Joe and the Electric Hora.
And I will be praying for The Electric Euthanasia.
Chat With Neighbor
Neighbor: Hey, Dave. I'm collecting donations for next Saturday's Block Party.
Me: Sure. Here. (reaches into wallet and hands over a couple of bills)
Neighbor: Thanks, Dave. But I have to let you know that due to your behavior last year, some ground rules have been established.
Me: Ground rules? Last year? I have no idea to what you are referring.
Neighbor: Well, for starters, you exceeded the weight limit for the Bouncy Castle.
Me: I'll have you know that last year I only weighed 180 lbs.
Neighbor: Of course. But that was WITHOUT your car. And then there was time when you secretly replaced the DJ's collection of 70s disco music with your own collection of klezmer records.
Me: Well, you had to admit it got everyone dancing.
Neighbor: They were writhing, Dave. In pain. And what about your tattoo booth? For the kids--YOU WERE APPLYING REAL TATTOOS!
Me: At least I spelled all the words correctly. Even the Chinese.
Neighbor: (reaches into pocket and pulls out LARGE wad of bills) On second thought, Dave, here. Take your family somewhere nice next Saturday.
