Ancient people with iron deficiency nomming on literally anything with blood in it, if it looked red and was edible it was getting used to nourish the blood. Those people would've LOVED iron gummies.

Source? Going into the vitamin aisle in the modern day and seeing all the iron gummies GONE.

There's definitely a chance that women who experience heavy periods were given blood based foods to replenish the blood supply. Or sucking on cooked bone marrow, along with medicines and herbs that curbed the pain from cramps.
