Don’t look a gift horsefly in the mouth – these bugs are important for our ecology, and their mouth is well… their mouth sure is.

3 minutes never feels like enough time to get into it, but for clarification, the eyes of males are closer together, than the females. Their eyes are also super complex (no pun intended), but worth having a read about if you are interested in how they are so quick to react!

I was today years old when I learned that our blood is repelled by magnets, not attracted to magnets.

This is because our blood is mostly oxygenated. The iron in oxygenated blood has 0 unpaired electrons, making it diamagnetic, so it's repelled by a magnet.

Deoxygenated blood has iron with 4 unpaired magnets, making it paramagnetic, so it's slightly attracted to a magnet.

Kinda makes you wonder what the Earth's magnetic field is doing to us - if it's doing anything at all.
