more world building:
uh also; supernatural creatures in the Novel ‘verse are kind of weird in how they work.
They all had a progenitor “type”, the thing that started the myth to begin with... But because of the changeable nature of reality and their tennous hold on our plane (most Supernaturals don’t even belong on this plane of existence -- they started “outside” of it) their abilities, strengths, weaknesses and even forms change over time with human belief.
In the Novel ‘verse humans have a fuck ton of control over their “native” plane, not as individuals (although there are some individuals who have the ability to alter/fuck with reality) but as a group, they exert a tremendous amount of influence.
So, as humanity’s belief in supernatural creatures wanes or grows, so does their hold and their strength (which I think came up in a drabble I was doing with Morgan, idk if I posted it here or not. Where she mentions that they’re slowly “fading” as humans move away from the Supernatural.)
This leads to a huge fucking variety even in one species. It’s why my vampires have strains/variants that are allergic to silver, who are only weakened in the sun or are totally different in form from the “true” type. (which I haven’t figured out -- I have no idea what the oRIGINAL vampire is like -- only the current species which came about sometime in the middle ages.)
And from locale to locale, the types change as well. So we have location-based variations as well.
Basically, supernaturals are really fucking changeable, have a massive variety and don’t even have any like, base that you can expect them to stick to -- with obvious exceptions. All varieties of vampire need blood in some form to survive, all shapeshifters can change their shape into something else, all incubi/succubi need sex energy to survive. But from there on out, everything is fair game.
Nothing is ever static or possible to really expect.
