To answer your question, no, HC didn't have an actual name! This is alluded to the book 1 commentary on how "Hua Cheng" (flower city) doesn't seem like a real name (it sounds like he made it up!)

Also, "Wu Ming" is actually really bad tbh. As in, being nameless in CN culture, especially for the dead, is heart wrenching. Correct me if im wrong, but it kinda means: No one who remembers you. No family wants to be associated with you at all. No paper money/incense for you in the afterlife. You're no one / nothing

My struggle was remembering when he got Hua Cheng (order of events).

I think I vaguely remember it being mentioned or inferred during the past during the parade when Xie Lian caught baby Hua Cheng. Because he had a cursed birthday there was no bother in naming him(? fuck, I hope I'm not making it up but I distinctly remember him not having a name because of everyone believing him to be cursed).

I have no idea about being a ghost with no name, but the logic follows (I am not learned in this)! Like I can see how that would be horrific- also checks out with his birth situation.

Thank you for the clarity though! When I read it I confused the ghostly "ascensions" (wrath with supreme) when he was named/self named Hua Cheng.

It’s a canon divergence from the time SQQ exploded his core. LBH goes back in time and he notices things the second time around.

This one is SO GOOD!!!!! I have it saved in my Bingqiu collection on a03.

in these trying times of the White Clothed Calamity arc I’m sure you could use some more light hearted tidbits abt TGCF so;

the fandom nickname for Hua Cheng is ‘Fafa’. ‘Fa’ is another way of saying the same character as the ‘Hua’ in Hua Cheng, using that plus the whole doubling up characters to make the sound thing, and you Fafa. Fafa and Huahua are used pretty interchangeably but Fafa is more common since our lord and savior MXTX herself uses it and says she finds it the cuter of the two.

I recommend the SVSSS fic, "i shine only with the light you gave me" by corduroyserpent.

TLJ brings ZZL back to life with the Holy Mausoleum, but he comes back as a little demon child.

It's a very sweet story about the whole heavenly demon family learning what family really means. ♥

OMG WAIT! I have not read this and it sounds positively delightful.

I am so weak for the heavenly demon family getting a good happy and fulfilling ending, and this sounds like that. I can't wait till I get to it- it will for sure show up in one of my weekly read list when I do!

Just re-read your SVSSS read through, and lol the blood counter.

Someone has gotta write a fic where ingesting all that blood gives SQQ some heavenly demon powers or something! It happened like 6 times! (Though I guess he was in a different body for two of them.)

Truly! I feel like at some point there has to be like a blood paradox LOL All of these bloods just canceling out one another.

It was so wild to read. I'm doing TGCF now and I feel like I need a Xie Lian drag counter; it has the same energy as blood parasites in svsss. Points for in drag, half points for when OTHER characters ask him to dress in drag but he doesn't. It is like every other chapter I swear. I love it so much.

Me @ ZZL: On the one hand, you are a great character and I’m sad you died, but on the other hand you massacred a whole ass town with demon minions that rot people to death just so you could abscond with one guy!!!

Killing HHP cultivators? Understandable. They’re part of the group that stuck your uncle under a mountain. The random mortal villagers though??? Whatever did they do to you?!

(I’m assuming that’s why the story had ZZL die, as otherwise that would be a very awkward thing to just not address ever.)

I mean that's what makes our little awkward snake man an interesting character? Though I could argue that he was partially following Tianlang-jun's orders.

Sure yes, the orders were because Tianlang-jun knew ZZL liked him but they also owed a perceived life debt and ZZL gives back to a drop of kindness via a flood. And, well, what's a bunch of villagers when, if they followed the plan to fully merge the realms, the world would have basically ended?

Either way the most chaotic neutral thought patterns; I still don't know if I agree with the death? Though, it would have been more awkward if he stuck around and watched the man he fell for marry his cousin and have to deal with that for the rest of their lives. very awkward family reunions.

One of my favorite SVSSS stories is in the “Scum Villain AUs” compilation by Feynite. Chapters 5 & 6, the Superhero/Supervillain AU. In which SY transmigrates into a comic book he never read as a Supervillain, and unknowingly endears himself to the protagonist.

It’s so funny! Super“villain” SY is gold.

(While the compilation is marked incomplete, the Supervillain story is in fact complete.)

Much appreciated. I do prefer finished fics but not because (I want to be clear, everyone on a03 is amazing and deserves support while their fic updates) I dislike in progress- it's mostly because I don't want to lose the plot as they update.

I read in so few fandoms that I want to be able to remember what's happening in the specific plotline while I get updates. Because of my poor poor memory I typically keep 5-10 in-progress fics in my subscriptions at a time.

I do have a couple that I think are rounding out to their end so I may in future (a couple months or so) do another call for WIPs!
