Hey while I’m thinking about characters who ended up a lot sadder than I realized while in the process and also while I’m thinking about Synaelia! Let’s talk about this smoky wings gal!

So! Info brick time. Momma was a Sallow, so girlie got the family curse of them dead longer as damned souls which live in your shadows and so shadows Hurt’, and papa was an angel who wasn’t around a ton but that doesn’t mean he didn’t get attached and I haven’t developed him much so let’s keep going. Mama Sallow wasn’t the best lady, but like, the whole family got really dark over the generations, so she’s not the only one like that. Mama pissed off the wrong person at the wrong time and destruction goddess is gonna destroy shit and Raelin was walking Ash home that night and didn’t get caught in all of that. How did Synaelia, an actual toddler, survive this? ...Uncertain. Maybe dad was taking her out for ice cream or something before he got caught up in picking a fight with Tanra. It’s not like anyone else alive knows what happened, so I’ve not bothered to flesh it out. Anyway, Raelin lives with Ash now, and Synaelia is assumed to be dead.

Obviously, though, she’s not, and I’m nowhere near done with this ramble. Not terribly long after this, Synaelia gets essentially adopted by a little boy and a demon cat that’s trying to raise him. A demon cat that is initially very reluctant to be in charge of a second child, but Sean was good at making him feel bad sometimes. At some point after that, the trio move in with a couple that I don’t remember the first names of, but the kids take their last name, because fuck, neither of them know their own. One was abandoned and the other was found in a bunch of rubble, so like, they take on the last name Runn. .....Tanra takes out these parents too. She was a menace and nobody liked her. By this point, though, Syn was around ten or so, and Sean was in his late teens, and he went into the House (magic spooky location, I’m sorry for the confusing name) and vanished for... a number of years. So Synaelia has to find a new family to stick with, because she can’t deal with this shit alone.

Cut to her joining the Wandering. She gets her numeral (VIII, for anyone who cares) tattooed on her ribs under her left arm, and she helps explain some shit to the pair of human kids that didn’t grow up on Elysur. The group becomes her new family. Of course, she still cares about Ves and Sean, but they both vanish for months at a time, so she sticks with the people she can keep around more consistently. When Rei started mimicking Aelia’s magic and getting sick, Syn would take some of it to lighten the load a bit, because if she could help out, she would. When Lucky finally started figuring out how to use her non-fighting based magic ability, Syn offered to be a lab rat, essentially. And when Aelia faked her death, Syn tried to keep the group together as much as she could. She at least tried to keep in touch with everyone... even if it didn’t work.

She met the medley Sean was a part of not terribly long after that, and she didn’t handle it very well. Malric felt bad about not being her brother, and stopped leaving his gallery, after a bit.

Jump ahead some time, because I haven’t filled it out very well, and reality gets really fucky for a while. Around half of the group, despite having been in very different places, ended up in another reality for a while, and while Lucky was off losing and getting a new eye, Timothy was watching alternate versions of his friends get into something they wouldn’t survive and Syn had to get him out of the situation (and ultimately back into their own reality {they didn’t know Lucky was there, it was a weird coincidence that she and Syn realized later}) and Timothy ended upturning into some word woods at a point.

Synaelia got her own apartment. Started fucking around and learning how to summon people and things and realized that hey, arguably this will work with anything or anyone, if you find the right process. She ends up pissing off the Noren and Geryon tells her to back off, not particularly politely. One of her many parental figures fixes his paused death situation because of it, and her brother lets the guy be dead for around a month before promoting him to undead. Synaelia gets a similar treatment from one of his business partners, only they don’t plan to bring her back.

Because of demon cat dad, she comes back anyways. And because of weird angel reasons, she’s technically not a spirit? Because demon cat dad is at his base a spirit, just seasoned and cooked... but she’s some seasoned bread instead. This analogy is weird and doesn’t make sense, and I’m sorry, but I think it’s neat, so I’m leaving it in. Anyway, because of angelic reasons, Synaelia doesn’t register as ‘dead’, but she’s also not technically alive. She does have wings, now, too, which is interesting. And also now she’s living with a sword for a roommate and this is the calmest her life has been in quite a while.
