Just finished Winterkeep, and Quona Varana is the old cat lady that lives in a mansion by the sea, and knows everything about everyone, and she is my life goals tbh.
I drew this fanart several years ago, and only recently stumbled upon it again. I'm still really happy with how it came out.
All of the major fox characters from The Animals of Farthing Wood, both the animated series and the books. 🦊
I grew up watching The Animals of Farthing Wood. I'm sure that my undying love of foxes came from this series. I also adore the art style of the cartoon, so I think that probably influenced my own art style in return.
Farthing Fox and Vixen are my original OTP. ❤️❤️❤️
Drawn by hand, scanned and digitally coloured in GIMPshop
I debated for an age whether or not to assume this background character was Russet or not, but with my reboot plot I’m deciding she’s not and instead I’m calling her Lavender. This is only a quick and rough edit.
I’ve always found the quality of screenshots charming for the 90′s cartoon, but difficult for referencing characters. So I’m gonna draw edits for them to improve quality and provide better quality screenshots for others. Here’s the poor young Blue Fox from the season 2 episode “A Joke Backfires.” I’m calling him Cadet. I plan to edit his other screenshots too.
Just finished watching Season 2 of ‘The Animals Of Farthing Wood’. Now that the animals have reached White Deer Park and have settled in the story has taken a surprising turn as it’s now about the foxes primarily. However the ‘The Oath Of Mutual Protection’ is still very much the theme because they haven’t given up on it just because their journey is over. They have realized that there is a benefit to keeping it going for the sake of each other’s health and well-being. There’s this tribe of blue foxes led by the antagonist of the season, Scarface that opposes the red foxes. It’s red vs blue. But there’s also a Romeo and Juliet love story going on in that one of the red fox cubs befriends and then falls in love with one of the blue fox cubs and with both being the cubs of Fox and Scarface, it’s considered forbidden for them to be with each other because the families are feuding.
Another one of the red fox cubs has decided to go off on his own because he wants to get out from under his father’s shadow as the son of the heroic Fox of Farthing Wood and to prove that he can fend for himself and he finds his own friends and his own mate while on his own journey. It’s quite an elaborate storyline for just the one cub because there’s a lot of back and forth to it and in the end he learns for himself why the Oath is important.
Animals looking after one another regardless of what species they are is something that is a staple for this show and it’s quite inspiring and heartwarming to see.
I wonder what the storyline/s for Season 3 - which is the final season - will be about. It’s possible it will be about human interference because I distinctly remember from my childhood humans being in it more frequently than they have been so far. My nostalgia will likely kick in for the next season in confirming that. Well, that and also my claircognizance because that always plays a part when it comes to knowing what I know about TV shows that I’ve never seen or haven’t seen since I was a child.
I wanted to put a spin on these two to make them more recognizable. Storm is a vixen and Con is a fox. They’re the pair who were killed during the Season 2 episode “Survival” when they took chickens from a farm and got shot by the farmer (and the Farthing Wood Fox and Vixen stole the chickens)
