Sidney Bechet and the Blue Note Jazzmen: December, 1944
In the early ‘40s, Blue Note recorded a number of trad all-star sextet/septet dates under the banner Blue Note Jazzmen, under the rotating leadership of Sidney Bechet, James P. Johnson, Sidney DeParis and Art Hodes. This photo is from the December 20, 1944 session under Sidney Bechet’s stewardship, with Sidney DeParis and Vic Dickenson, which produced Blue Horizon and a defining St. Louis Blues.
