Catocala fraxini

From the erebidae family. They have a wingspan of 75-95 mm. They canbe found in broadleaved woodland but wandering adults can be seen in almost any habitat. They can be found throughout nearly all of central and northern Europe, as well as parts of southern Europe.

3. Blue underwing (Catocala fraxini) x Beard lichen The Finnish name for the blue underwing, siniritariyökkönen, translates roughly to “the blue knight moth”, so I was already daydreaming about a knight in a fairy armor, and as it got paired with beard lichen, the outcome was clear. It was fun to study tree bark for this! I got a bit carried away while researching armors... Well, I went with my own design in the end, although it is a bit... stiff.
