I have been restraining myself so admirably – for everything I post I have approximately six more things I didn’t because that would be a hell of a lot of posts – but occasionally I just need to, like, slough off, you know?

One thing: I’m reading Wilbour’s translation and Hapgood’s alongside because those are the only ones I have access to at the moment, and they both translate grande-R as “capital R” - no note, no nothing, either inline or asterisked, to explain. Which robs this poor, precious, dead asshole of some already-obvious characterization so it’s not like it’s that crucial except insofar as it robs me of a pun, but among other things it makes me wish I had a book with the French alongside. Totally unfeasible because, you know, Brick, but I can dream.

I’ll… dream this dream, if you will.
