Got myself a new medieval not-Lego Building, a Townhouse with a Printer's Workship on the Ground Floor :3
It's by the german Company Bluebrixx, who are renowned for their realistic and detailed medieval Buildings. I waited Months for the Release, as I'm very into late-medieval/early modern Printing and instantly loved the Design. It was pleasant to build and in my Eyes keeps up their high Standard for Building Techniques, while not being unneccessarily complicated. Unlike other Buildings of them here the indivudal Floors are not stacked on top of another, but instead the Building is constructed as an empty Case with Rails in the Walls and the Floors are then slid into them like Drawers. I actually like that Concept a lot, because it makes the Interior a lot more accessible, though the front Walls could be constructed a little more rigid, as they tend to partly come off when you slide in the Floor above and are not super careful.
I really love that little Printing Press [even though there is a really tiny Inaccuracy about it (which is not Scale-/Medium-related)]!
There is also a Bakery belonging to this new Series of a medieval Street, that can be attached on the Side, which I'll also get eventually as I like the Concept. Would be cool to have a somewhat long Street at some Point, but for now this one House fittingly lives in the Bookshelf hehe
Now I just hope they cater to my Obsession with the pre-modern Printing Industry and also release a Paper Mill and a Book Vendor to complete the Manufacturing Chain. Sounds a bit unrealistic on one Hand, but on the other - given what other obscure Buildings/Crafts they made the Topic of Sets - I guess anything is possible with them!
My own little Stargate! ❤️
Started building Castle Eltz which had a hilarious cameo in Moon Knight. Why hilarious? Because it's not Bavaria? More because you can't reach the main gate in the show...someone forgot that it has an entrance. Love the show but that made me laugh unintentionally.
These are the first two building steps - I'm currently at the third and aside from having a little bit of a sore thumb I'm truly having a good time with it. I'm actually surprised by how fast I build this in contrast to other sets. Generally speaking I'm a slow builder and by fast I don't mean that I rush through it but it's actually way more uncomplicated than I thought. And it doesn't need crazy colors to be build. Seriously. Typical LEGO sets have more colors in them than a ball pit. Unnecessary colors.
But it's simple to identify where to put which brick even though there are like 6-8 essential colors - I made one actual mistake using the wrong color. That's it.
Anyways, maybe not a set for beginners but you don't need to be an expert either.
I finished the steampunk bird. I made its legs shorter because they were too fragile and kept breaking. But I don't think you can see that.
I'm sure that true fans will roll their eyes at me for having been unaware of this. It was only when I built the Stargate on Planet BlueBrixx set that I noticed: there are 3×13=39 symbols on the gate but an even number, 2×19=38, symbols on the DHD. And it's not like the big red button replaces the point-of-origin symbol, as that's also on the DHD.
So I was wondering how accurate that is. And it is impressively accurate; not entirely accurate, as the BlueBrixx DHD puts Aquila where Microscopium is on the show prop; but the mismatched number of symbols is show-accurate.
The DHD doesn't have Aquila on it (on the show; in the BlueBrixx set it lacks Microscopium instead). That seems to be just an oversight in the prop department. Either they weren't obsessed with numbers, or maybe the big red button was supposed to replace the point-of-origin symbol and that got lost in translation on the way to the finished prop. When each world is supposed to have a different point-of-origin symbol, the latter would make the most sense so the prop can be maximally reused without modification.
But it could also make sense in-universe:
If at some time after the gate network was established but still before the currently used DHDs were created (replacing an earlier model) some catastrophic disaster of interstellar scale happened in the Aquila constellation, and if we stick to the idea that the first six symbols define the borders of a bounding box, then gate addresses that contain Aquila would all denote boxes adjacent to the disaster and could be all within the no-go-zone. If whatever happened there didn't destroy the gates in those systems, then the Tau'ri with their jury-rigged gate would be the only ones who might dial such addresses and stumble into the danger that befell that stellar neighbourhood.
I haven't seen all episodes of SG-1, but with all the dangers they've encountered, I feel like there must have been some episode that would fit this scenario, and that would only need a little Easter egg of showing that the address they dial in the beginning contains Aquila to allude to the flaw in the prop.
Of course, the archive of gate addresses they've found on Abydos could already be from after the disaster. Alternatively, whatever happened there could have destroyed those systems and their gates, so they couldn't get a connection anyway.
And the whole idea might obviously have been contradicted, if in all the years they have just once shown Aquila being logged in.

Not the best picture, I know. But it took me 1 1/2 days to fully build this. (Please ignore the chaos on my desk.)
BlueBrixx set number 109216 Stealth Reconnaissance One. Or as those who know, know it: Normandy SR-1. It is bigger than I thought and I need to find a place for it now.
I also got the Mako, sorry "Armored Reconnaissance Rover", to build, which is probably just as big. Still don't have a lot of space to put things.
