*ODD spoilers for anyone reading* Okay I do understand why Kate had to die (like I LOVE her and part of me is going to pretend that didn't happen but it 100% fit the series and themes so I get it) but I don't understand Ilsa's death at all? To me that seemed way more pointless and unnecessary idk I was just curious about your take on everything.!
idk I think that her death kinda made sense too?? I think that the only way of killing the chaos eater was by sacrificing one of the sunais and it had to be her cause she was the oldest. (also it would have been v mean to kill both of the protagonists, and killing Soro wouldn’t make a lot of sense cause they were young and a new character). Still, I was devastated cause I love Ilsa and also cause right after her death you-know-what happened to kate :(. But in my opinion, like you said, it fitted the themes of death, war, sacrifice, etc, even if it hurt me a lot.
ninej and doraelin for the ship ask
Ninej
Otp // Brotp // Notp
I haven’t read SOC yet (I plan on reading it once I finish the books I have checked out from the library) but from what I’ve seen and the fact that I’m trash for any wholesome and healthy femslash ship I can say it’s probably going to be an otp
Doraelin

after reading chapters 26 and 27 of acowar i can officially say i hate the book and everything it stands for
the way mors abuse was handled, as if it was just an inconvenience, the way all the characters but mor and cassian seemed ooc it was just fucking horrible writing wise and just like??
i can say now, that i despise rhysand feyre azriel and that i despise the book. that is no way to handle abuse victims and the subtle way that it made mor’s abuse and abuse in general trivial is legit disgusting
9,10 and11 (sorry I haven't answered yours for flower asks I will get to it)
no worries!! thanks for asking:
9: most disliked character(s)? why?
oh boy okay so i’m gonna stick to sjm because there are a lot, rn my wrath is directed at eris (abuser), i dislike lorcan and eos dorian (my baby whose characterization was set on fire and kicked into a dumpster by sarah) and aelin is annoying 90% of the time
10: most disliked arc? why?
oooohhhhh boy i’m picking three
-manorian, makes no sense it’s bullshit and was Not Foreshadowed and manon is a lesbian. i rest my case.
-elorcan. makes no sense it’s bullshit and was out of nowhere and elide is also a lesbian. i rest this case as well.
-mor’s entire acowar arc, basically. her gayness could’ve been so great but it was butchered, handled horribly (and harmfully). she was so ooc in being awful to nesta and i just.. didn’t feel like i was reading about morrigan it was a different person

I have to agree with you, like, I didn't get much enjoyment out of what I read in selection but those books are literally supposed to be trashy in a fun way, and they don't pretend to be anything else. I can respect that. ToG is at the same level or lower and it's made so much worse because it's supposed to be "the ya game of thrones" and gets praised for being this awesome kickass feminist series with all this faaabulous world building and so well constructed and just ewww :/
Agree with you on Throne of Glass. Gotta disagree with you on The Selection because it takes itself far too seriously, methinks.
If it was just a trashy romance novel with sci-fi elements, I’d probably love it. (It’s a thing I’m actually writing, so of course I’d love it.) But it tries to be something it isn’t by forcing in random dystopian elements that don’t fit at all. Writing about torture and children being whipped for stealing fruit while attempting to make serious social commentary doesn’t exactly look like something that doesn’t take itself too seriously. I’d argue the opposite, The Selection takes itself WAY too seriously and that’s what makes it so funny, because it’s clearly incompetent as fuck.
It’s not lighthearted and cute and focused on the romance and pretty dresses and personal drama. It’s always deathly serious and the emotions of the main characters are treated as the most important thing while the worldbuilding throws random cruel garbage at our faces just to be edgy without actually having any weight or meaning.
The book gets self-aware at times, but instantly reverts back to the melodrama without addressing the serious issues it presents. Either you introduce serious issues and address them, or you don’t introduce them at all and keep things lighthearted and fun. The Selection tries to do and fails at doing both.
Now, if the reader things the books are trashy fun, then that’s a different argument, but I can’t say that the book doesn’t pretend to be anything else, because it very much does.
