do you know anyone who would be willing to teach me about blup/teams/ratio/backbreeding/etc, for an absolute beginner? I've asked some people on teams on howrse, but they tell me no. if not, do you know any guides online? Thank you!

There should be schedules that work for most breeds however if you join a team they should have a tried & tested blup schedule available.  Alternatively, lots of mods/breeders have schedules on their EC forums.

So you want to join a team.  I assume there is either a team or breed you perhaps have your eye on.  So depending on your actual ability will depend what teams you’ll have access to.

I first recommend you to blup by yourself for 2+ weeks.  During this time, check to see how many blups you can (afford) to do.  If you waste all your resources in the first week and can’t pay to replace the resources, slow your blupping down.  Most teams have ¾ as blupping minimum.  This should mean it’s the amount you do on a week when your busy and not how many you should strive to blup for the entire week.  Also test how fast you blup.  If you’re not used to blupping the first few times may take a while, but once you get a hang of it (and assuming you have decent internet connection) you should try to aim to blup within an hour.  It’s literally just getting used to the repetitive clicks and trying to click faster lol.

Ok so now you’ve an idea of how many blups you can do, and how long it takes you to blup.  Lots of teams will display their minimum blup/time requirements on their page.  Have a look at different teams in the breed that interests you.  If you want to join a team but do not meet their current requirements, try looking into the lower tiered teams or even similar skillset breeds that may have lower requirements.  Build your way up, it’s a lot better than starting at the top and not being able to handle it, and of course you’ll gain experience which is always handy.

Now send a message to the team recruiter, fill out their application or tell them information about your breeding history, game history, why you want to join the team and how often you can blup (be honest, there’s nothing worse than someone joining the team and blupping 20 horses the first week but then they disappear).  Some teams even have part-time options.

In the genetics tab, we see that this arab’s top three skills are stamina, dressage and jump.  When we breed the horse, we will get a range of GPs on each foal.  Picking the best GP doesn’t always equate to the best for your horses skillset.  To focus on improve the horses top 3 skills only, we use ratios.

Now, all teams more than likely use different ratios.  Ratios can be altered to suit whatever the team is trying to accomplish.  In this example, we will use all three skills evenly, so we add up the stamina, dressage and jump GPs.

Stamina(97.34) + Dressage(82.39) + Jumping(67.90).  This equals 247.63.  We now divide that by the horses Total GP(73.26).  This equals .6634249585 which is the horses ratio.

Now, typically teams will breed at least 2 foals, and pick the best.  You apply the equation to all foals genetics,  there will only be minor differences but in the long run doing this will improve the ratios and in turn, your horses skillset.

Your team should provide a template showing you how exactly they want the ratios done

Backbreeding vs. Sibbreeding

Okay, you have a mare, breed her 5 times and pick the best 2 ratio foals.  These two foals will then be blupped and bred together, and this is repeated.  This is called sib-breeding.  Sib breeding will have higher GP gain but can require more resources and active members as there will always be two horses needing to be blupped.

So, this time, we have a mare, and she has 3 foals (bb typically breeds less  each run).  You pick the best out of the 3 foals who becomes the next stallion.  You breed your mare to her foal.  They have another 3 foals, you pick the best, and it will become the next mare, and so on.  Lots of bolts required for this one, as it needs to keep going male - female - male - female etc. This is backbreeding.  BB requires less players/resources but is slower and gives smaller GP gains.

I'm the anon asking about BLUPing and rides. It wasn't directed at you, it's just, when I've tried out on other teams, they gave me a BLUPing schedule that said do forest rides until age two. Nowhere else in the schedule did it say to finish forest rides, so they decided to not let me on the team. Do you know what they might've meant? Thank you for the help, and sorry for the confusion!

Above is a similar schedule with mountain rides till 2 in place of forest.  The rest of the schedule may need to be altered to suit your horses breed however at the end you see it says to finish mountain rides.

Also, a little tip, typically a team will want the horse @ 100blup (top three skills bolded with 20 wins) or @ 70 blup (top 3 bolded, without wins), you should be told which your team breeds with.  Even if a schedule doesn’t necessarily say to do something, you should always ensure the horses is fully bolded before breeding -finishing whatever training, rides or comps need completing. :)

On BLUPing schedules it says do 'forest rides until age 2'. How do you finish them by age two, like teams expect someone to do? When I asked someone else on howrse on multiple teams, I was ignored. Thank you!

I mean to just do rides from 1.6yr - 2yr, not to have them finished by then.  Later on in the schedule it should say “Finish Forest rides”, or something to that effect. Sorry for any confusion!

And the worst time considering sleep patterns and all that jazz.
