Could u tell me where did u listen to Zelda Williams about the Blu Ray Commentary?
I just listened to it on the Book 4 Bluray discs I bought. There isn’t anywhere to listen to it online (that I know of), if that’s what you’re asking?
She did commentary for episode six, “Battle of Zaofu,” along with Bryan and Mike, and Janet Varney (who voices Korra, of course). Here are some paraphrased highlights:
Kuvira is her first VO role, and her second audition.
She recorded her audition for Kuvira with a microphone belonging to an ex-boyfriend she’d dumped. She was about to send it back to him when she got the audition and decided to make use of it instead. (Janet Varney said, “Kuvira would really approve of that process!”)
She and Bryan talked about Kuvira’s design and how she and Zelda actually look pretty similar to each other. Bryan said he designed the character before Zelda came in to read for her, so apparently the similarities are coincidental.
She likes how “everyone in the Earth Kingdom has statement necklaces.” She also geeked out about all the characters’ hairstyles, the art deco train, and the mech suits.
She and Janet talked about the first time they recorded scenes together, and how the producers had to have them separated by a wall because the scenes involved a lot of yelling.
When she was auditioning, she and the producers worked together to determine the right voice range for Kuvira, starting out with “super aggro.” XD But the producers had her dial it down a bit from there in order to reflect that Kuvira had good intentions and some good sides to her, too. So she’s not, as Zelda put it, “full mad hatter crazy lady.”
She also talked about the difficulty of yelling while still being controlled, which Janet wholeheartedly seconded.
It took her a while to learn how to correctly pronounce “Bolin.”
All four of them spent a lot of time talking about Dee Bradley Baker and how amazing his animal sounds are.
She talked about recording with John Michael Higgins (Varrick), particularly the scene in “Enemy at the Gates” when Kuvira dangles Varrick out the back of the moving train. She said Higgins did about five minutes’ worth of ad-libbing (including the “head voices are liars!” line which made it into the final version), which had her laughing so hard she could barely continue.
She laughed about how Kuvira made everyone in her army have “hipster haircuts.” This was also when she mentioned Baatar’s super-groomed beard.
She was very intrigued by Huan and his hair. She was like, “Who is that?” and Bryan told her he was her fiancé’s brother. XD
