In week 2 of Communication design studies I unfortunately couldn’t make it to class and thus had no pictures to share from the “type-doh” workshop. However, some lovely friends of mine filled me in on the class and I made up for it by creating the same task at home using blu tack as my “clay”. It was a good activity to do because the nature of the material being moulded versus the scribing utensil itself both gave very different outcomes and less/more control when writing. It gave me an insight into the original writing techniques used by ancient creators of writing. The techniques used to write also affected the outcomes of the letter and shape forms, where I used both poking and swiping actions. Both were relatively inefficient methods of writing which makes me feel thankful that I can write this blogpost using the letters on my keyboard and that tumblr posts aren’t submitted on clay tablets.
