“Got a light, stranger?” She hides in c i t i e s now, because she knows that he can’t stand the smell. S m e l l has been a much more constant companion than sight in the long, long centuries he’s been c h a s i n g her, but he’s getting close, and though he may be a d e m o n , he has room in him for a little bit of good-humor. He is a l o n e in the world (except for h e r ; Haggard is long gone and she is the only one who remembers him------it leaves him little option in the way of celebration) and so he could do w o r s e than sharing a moment of self-satisfaction with a s t r a n g e r .
