The Wolseley 16/60 was introduced as Wolseley's offering of the second generation of the BMC Farina designed mid sized family cars. Originating from 1958 when BMC commissioned Baptista Farina to redesign its entire car line. This resulted in the creation of three Farina saloons, each badge-engineered to fit the various BMC car lines. The smaller of the three was the Austin A40 Farina. This is considered by many to be the first mass-produced hatchback car: a small estate version was produced with a horizontally split tailgate, its size and configuration would today be considered that of a small hatchback. The mid-sized Farinas were launched in 1958 with the Wolseley 15/60. Other members of the group included the Riley 4/68, Austin A55 Cambridge Mk. II, MG Magnette Mk. III, and Morris Oxford V. With the Morris and Austin versions trimmed as the basic models, the Riley and MG the better trimmed and more sporty models, and the Wolseley the luxury offering. They were replaced with a new though very similar Farina body style with an uprated BMC B Series engine. The third and largest Farina car was the Austin A99 Westminster/Vanden Plas Princess 3-Litre/Wolseley 6/99, launched in 1959. They used the large C-Series straight-6 engine. The large Farinas were updated in 1961 The 15/60 was replaced by the Wolseley 16/60 in September 1961, powered by a 1622cc BMC B Series engine driving through either a four speed manual transmission with syncromesh on the top three ratios or a Borg Warner 35 automatic transmission. Viewed from the outside, the Wolseley 16/60 was differentiated from the 15/60 by the overriders on the bumpers which protruded more than on the earlier car the plastic mouldings on the rear lights were also modified along with more subdued rear fins. The 1600 cc Farina models mostly remained in production through to 1968. However, with no rear wheel drive Wolseley-badged replacement produced, the Wolseley 16/60 model continued to be offered for sale until early 1971 Thanks for 95,411,962 amazing views, every one is greatly appreciated.
