Almost dry.
spring break is almost over and i cant wait to finish this little guy 🍵
A glaze I’ve been working on for months and have started to scale up from a test tile to small bowls to bigger pieces. I don’t have a ton of experience making glazes, but I'm learning. This one was originally too matte and marked very easily. I was able to adjust it to get a more durable surface — quite a boring detail but it makes the glaze more versatile. I also like that it has a variable surface that doesn’t rely on iron the clay to create interest.
Throwing off the hump. Total elapsed time: 7 minutes, This technique allows me to throw several closed forms from a single, centered mound of clay. Sometimes I can get as many as 15 closed forms from a single mound. It is easier to do my closed forms this way, so I am not having to break up, wedge and center multiple mounds of clay. This technique is a little difficult if you are throwing items that need a flat and level foot because as you cut the clay off the mound, you are bound to get a little crooked. I will be trimming these rounded and adding feet, so the level-ness of the bottom isn’t very important. #closedform #throwingclay #throwingoffthehump #bmix #lagunaclay #ceramics #clay #monster #mug #coffee #coffeemug #tea #monstermug #cryptozoology #goth #metal #gothdinnerware #handthtown #coneten #porcelain #ceramic #coffeeislife #pottery #creepycute https://www.instagram.com/p/CPwNCSVjHCd/?utm_medium=tumblr
Threw 3 (hopefully mugs), used a shape that's well liked in my small mugs thought I'd do it in a larger form. First items threw with no reclaim all new fresh clay. 1lb each they will shrink as they dry and after each firing until all moister is removed. So the finished product will be smaller. #bmix5 #bmix #throwing #throwingclay #reclaimclay #reclaimedclay #wedgingclay #wedging #uspigment #Lagunaclay #lagunaclaycompany #homestudiosetup #homestudiolife #homestudio (at Oregon, Illinois) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPbD7FFDLt8/?utm_medium=tumblr
83 lbs of clay, 58 balls of clay, cut, weighted, wedged, wrapped in 2 hours, great workout. 24 balls of 1 pounders 18 balls of 1.5 pounders 16 balls of 2 pounders *All fresh clay no reclaim, hoping this will help with the weak spots I keep getting and clasping... Plus should be clean of parts of sponge, metal or any other random debris I have found in my reclaim. *So next time in studio will be more practice to see if I have solved issues. Though every day in studio / running my own business is a learning experience and practice. Goodnight all. #wedgingclay #uspigment #thardypotteryandart #bmix5 #bmix #Lagunaclay #lagunaclaycompany #lagunaclaycompanydistributor #pottery #homestudio #homestudiolife #workoutinstudio (at Oregon, Illinois) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPZxKoHDaIg/?utm_medium=tumblr
