NICO: Happy Fourth or whatever.
NICO: The point is I got fireworks. And by that I mean: wanna light 'em up later?
NICO: I can provide both food and booze, hilariously.
“This random dude came up to me with the best pickup line of the year and I kind of regret not giving him my real number now. He was all ‘Baby, you remind me of the constitution because you look like a national treasure’, like, it was a fucking good one. What was I thinking?”
“You bet your entire fucking grandma I’m ready for our lord and savior Nic Cage,” Cindy said, bubbling with excitement despite her attempt to mask that with her favorite try-hard cool kid ehhh whatever tone of voice. She was a teenager, after all — couldn’t be that impressed by anything happening in a small town. Wasn’t going to miss out on the chance to model her favorite shirt, though. “Stays on the whole weekend no matter how gross it gets. Fashun.”
“This is actually my first fourth of July in Beaumont and... this place is bizarre. Why are there guns and strippers everywhere?” she asked, brows raised to emphasize her befuddlement at the scale of it all. Exaggerating a little bit, sure, but somehow the small town celebration felt way more over the top than the ones she had experienced in Nashville, and Bastille Day back home was definitely no match in terms of sheer patriotic madness. “Someone actually walked by my house and shouted ‘USA USA’ at 1 am.”
Same procedure as every year. Major and his Ma had set up shop in their usual corner of the park — Main Square didn’t necessarily care for their supernatural shenanigans. A clearly homemade (or ‘authentic’) sign was in place, promising spiritual counseling with a whole sixer of Major’s special brewings on the side. All for the neat old price of $17.76. Bargain.
“Sup, happy freedom, my friend,” Major greeted when someone passed his little set-up. Ma had managed to leave him in charge of the business at all the most uneventful times of day, and he was honestly bored out of his mind, alone with his crystal ball. And he’d had a few samples of the good stuff already, so he was feeling far too talkative to just lone it out. “The spirits are tellin’ me you’re in dire need of a listenin’ ear, and I got two of ‘em.”
