Moffat sits in that weird place where he's able to write some absolutely lovely stuff but then just...completely miss the point. Like the last episode of 12 the advice to his future self is something like "always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind" which is like...a great line and sentiment. But contradicts so fucking much about how he wrote the past few seasons and how he writes in general??? It's so baffling how not self-aware he often is
I just got to that episode and cried the predictable buckets. I so agree with you. The man has no long term ability whatsoever. He knows how to apply soaring music and to tug at your heartstrings like no one’s business, but it has no staying power. Nobody is going to point to a single moment during his tenure as showrunner as something that *excels*, but we all know Blink is transcendent. He was great at the smallscale, working under supervision. He S U C K E D as the showrunner. He has absolutely no longterm vision.
(sidebar: I was actually legit APALLED that he made his bff Gatiss into the heroic WW1 commander of his final episode. Crawl out of your own ass aaaaanytime, Moffat. Just....anytime.)

Yikes, there’s a reason I stopped watching halfway through ten... brief smatterings of eleven also failed to impress me
I stopped watching 11 when he took a trio of black men as slaves. Like....if no one involved in the production of this show flagged this as a problem, I don’t want to be here. The hardcore sexism lightens up a little in series 9, but it’s by no means gone. Moffat is one of those dudes who thinks he can USE sexism because he’s ~above it. In short: he’s a giant douche canoe.

I bailed on Capaldi 2 episodes in and after everything I've heard, I'm glad I did.
Capaldi is a treat, but he is often working with some absolute garbage. Like...if you missed the point of The Thick of It and thought that assholery is what makes Malcolm so compelling, you would be exactly as dumb as Moffat. He clearly thought, “Well, curmudgeonly old dudes are hilllllllarious hijinks” and proceeded to write just mindblowingly sexist garbage for Capaldi to say. And Capaldi has a lot of humanity to spread around---like all those great actors do---so he does more with his face than any of those horrifying jokes Moffat puts in his mouth. But still. The sexist jokes of series 8 are legit HORRIFYING. Like....throwback to the 50s levels of horrifying. And Capaldi does the best he can do, and is clearly better eqipped to handle the later episodes with the sexism turned waaaaay back, but still. That’s a lot of virulent sexism to wade through. Don’t bother.

yeah the fandom is batshit and the show itself has flaws but it also has a lot of really lovely character moments some COOL AF space battle shit and some really hilarious comedy bits
YEAH UH THE FANDOM SOUNDS LIKE A LOT but honestly i don’t pay more than half an eye of attention to most of the fandoms i’m in other than writing fic for them so that’s fine.
and honestly what show doesn’t have flaws like even some of my most favourite shows of all time have like, unwatchable first seasons and shit. it’s a children’s cartoon with enough Feelings to be engaging for me, it’s Not That Deep. LOVELY CHARACTER MOMENTS ARE REALLY ALL I NEED i can fic the rest
It usually involves a combination of raging like Aggretsuko and crawling over the top of my cubicle and into theirs like they've just watched an unsettling video and now have seven days to live. #truthcomingoutofhercubicletoslaymankind
Thank you for answering my call o(-<
The Miragen teams are different clans who are, on the surface, allied with one another, and beneath the surface, are largely united under Akashi’s command.
Kiyoshi’s clan (which includes the other uncrowned) is technically allied with the Teiko alliance, but they have an uneasy relationship that is peppered with the occasional skirmish and territorial disputes. On top of that, there’s considerable tension between the Uncrowned Generals (the elites of Kiyoshi’s clan, whose name I’m still trying to decide), and the Generation of Miracles (the elites of Teikou). Kiyoshi’s boss is a harsh leader with a slipping influence, and there has been some talk that the Generals may do the unthinkable and switch loyalties. Kiyoshi is tired and wants no part in it, if it’s true.
LOL Akashi actually doesn’t get his hands very dirty unless he’s answering a direct challenge to his leadership. In that case, duels take place using your fists, knives, or sword. Although I’m sure if Akashi only had a pair of scissors, he could be very resourceful with them.
Kiyoshi probably grew up for the most part inside of the Yakuza’s influence, and in his teenage/young-adult sense of machismo, saw it as an opportunity to gain the strength needed to protect his loved ones. Him (and maybe Kagami, and then eventually Kuroko) are the only members of Seirin that are Yakuza members. After physically and mentally recovering from his loss vs. Purple, he realizes manly pride alone is a dumb thing to die and kill over, and doesn’t do much at all for other people. And omg, I dont doubt Kiyoshi wore pink at some point. Pink shirts under opened black or white suits while he was trying to find himself, then someone tells him he looks like a really tacky yankee so he stops adsdkfjds unfortunately no pink eyepatches because he’s secretly ashamed of that wound, and he wasn’t punished for losing against Mursakibara and humiliating the entire family because his missing eye is supposed to act as a reminder of his shame :’3c
For that random inbox meme ask thing: What's the 'wonder' that you found today? How many dragons have you killed? What made you decide to get tattoos? What would you wish would happen to your worst enemy? What would you like to have right now if you could get it instantly?
Ooooh, wow, these are good! Okay, so…this got kind of long, and also kind of dark, so it’s under a cut.
