It's so sad that we never got to know what Daemon truly thinks of his Netty, he spent his whole life in wrapped with the idea of Valaryian blood purity and Targaryeon rule but a young bastard girl comes by and turns his whole world, his whole life upside down in just a few years? In the end he refuses his queen, his Targaryeon wife and also the fact that Daemon was so anguished with the loss of Nettles that the emotion was strong enough for Caraxes to cry out and SHATTER windows? That fact right there solidifies the fact that Daemon loved Nettles, his own dragon screamed for her when he could not. But I want to know what was going through his mind ad he was falling for her.

Yeah, Daemon met Nettles once Team Black took King’s Landing around the first moon of 130 AC and they part early into the fifth moon of that year.

He spent nearly 50 years of his life believing in Valyrian supremacy and Targaryen exceptionalism and then he met her. Her very existence breaks all those beliefs. Those last few months taught him more than all of his years(well maybe not more, but they definitely had the most impact on him in the end). He goes against everything he knows for her when it would be easy enough to just abandon her and “come home.” Come back to what he knows, but he doesn’t. He sticks by her and he saves her.

Let us not mention that scene where Caraxes literally expresses Daemon’s inner rage at being parted from her. If that’s not the most romantic scene in Fire & Blood then I don’t know what is🤷🏽‍♀️ Nettles might not have been his first love, but she was his last.

Unfortunately, because F&B is written as a historical text we do not get to see into the minds of characters like with GOT/ASOIAF. So our only hope for a canon depiction of what went on in Daemon’s head that caused him to fall in love with Netty is for the show to depict it 😬

I hope that HOTD includes Nettles(it would be a hate crime not to) and fully fleshes out their relationship. To be honest, unless they plan on turning Daemon into a straight-up villain, they kinda have to include her at this point. He is supposed to be a morally gray character who is capable of having a decent relationship, but so far, the healthiest relationship he has is with Caraxes 🫠

Daemon is teetering on the very edge of being morally gray, and I know it’s a hot take with this fandom, but he needs a redemption arc with someone he hasn’t groomed, neglected, or abused🤷🏽‍♀️

Who is your ideal Nettles fancast? Just curious because I’ve seen you use a couple of different people.

Lol, ideally my top pick would be Sophie Wilde:

She just has such a sweet face and fits Nettles canon description perfectly. Lol it’s a pipe dream though considering she has several projects in the works and I doubt she’s even on the HOTD teams radar. Though ironically she’s playing opposite of the guy who played Ser Laenor’s first lover in her new miniseries(Tom Jones).

Next up would be these two ladies:

Simona Brown

and Karla Simone Spence:

Both are British, have the right look IMO, and are fantastic actresses. Crystal Clark would be another great actresss for Nettles. She’s actually who I originally envisioned for her:

I think she’s free right now considering the show(Sanditon) she was on just ended.

Really, honestly at this point I will not complain who they cast as Nettles as long as the actress is Black/Blackish and brown-skinned. This is my only requirement for Nettles. I’ll be honest and say Nettles has the literal worst fancasts(not surprising since half want to act like she doesn’t exist or if she does they don’t want to her being Black).

Most of the actresses in said fancasts aren’t darker than a paper bag and some are non-Black/Blackish women which I find completely vile when people insist that she isn’t Black/Blackish when a. how Nettles is described is how you would describe someone Black and b. she looks like this in the lore and the official art:

The behavior of this fandom when it comes to Nettles period has been downright deplorable. I’ve already stated this, but I’ll state it a dozen times, I will straight up not watch this show if HBO looks over a host of Black/Blackish actresses to race bend the only in canon Black/Blackish character and more importantly the only in canon Black/Blackish woman.

I’ll keep it cute and leave it there🤷🏽‍♀️ Bottom line, I have my preferences, but I will literally cheer on any actress who they cast to play Nettles as long as she is visibly Black/Blackish.

If you were to ever do a modern day AU for Daemon and Nettles what would it be like?

Oh, this is an interesting thought experiment. My first thought was that it would look like the TV show Scandal, but then I realized that Daemon is a prince and Westeros has a monarchy so that wouldn’t make a lot of sense (in my mind at least)🤣

Anyway, it would look sorta like The Crown(very loosely like The Crown). There would be no Dance so Rhaenyra has already been crowned queen and no one is trying to fight her accession to the throne. Daemon is her prince consort/husband/older cousin still with quite a reputation who the firm initially did not want Rhaenyra to marry. Ten years into their marriage it’s not looking so hot, but they are the ruling monarchs so they have to keep up appearances.

Nettles would be the new young intern to Daemon’s private secretary. When he’s first introduced to her he’s probably rude. He might feel some initial attraction, but she’d be completely turned off by him and his arrogance.

A couple of weeks or months later and they are at some charity event(maybe something for animals or children) where Nettles takes the place of Daemon’s secretary because some emergency happened. He wonders why she’s there and doesn’t think she’s up to the task yet, but she’s brilliant and she nails it.

If he’s not already attracted to her he definitely is now. He starts requesting her to be with him at these events (even if that’s against protocol) and he tries to charm her. Nettles is extremely weary of him and wonders why he’s being nicer to her. She can’t exactly be rude, but one day she does snap and goes off on him(he probably insults someone else and she rightfully calls him out for being a prick). He apologizes(sincerely) and the two form a “friendship.”

As the month's roll by Nettles herself starts to develop feelings for him, but try’s to suppress them. Daemon does not hide his attraction/feelings for her so he leaves the door open. She hesitates to take that final step until one cool night when they are touring the Riverlands (Maidenpool🏰 anyone). One thing leads to another and they consummate 🕯️their relationship. They are pretty much inseparable at this point.

Rhaenyra would be informed of their growing relationship by her private secretary. She dismisses it because of the arrangement she and Daemon have(he’s had affairs before). She just thinks that this is some fling that he’ll get tired of and out of his system soon enough, but then she sees the two in action and how they interact with each other. She gets freaked and starts to panic.

She confronts Daemon and tells him to drop Nettles. He threatens to completely move out of the palace and publically separate from her if he has to do that. So she relents and agrees to his terms. It’s fine and dandy until the press gets wind of the relationship📰

The firm goes into damage control and tells Daemon that he has to drop Nettles and say it was a mistake, that he’s sorry, yadda yadda. Naturally, at this point he’s actually in love so he holds firm, says he will not give her up, and asks for a divorce. As you can imagine all hell breaks loose🔥

Sorry for the ranting it’s just nice to meet follow Nettles fans who appreciate her character and don’t try to constantly erase her from the narrative.It’s definitely doubles down with the show but that’s been happening even before that. Why are there so few stories about Netty? She’s such an interesting character who seems to have had a horrible life(can you imagine what it does to a person a young girl on top of that to live all ok her own homeless for many years?)yet the fandom doesn’t bother with her at all. And you can’t blame the show because like I said Nettles erasure has been happening from the begging. Rhaena as much as I love her isn’t the last dragon rider she’s the last Targ one(if N isn’t a Targ/Valyrian)which is an important distinction the fandom doesn’t usually make. Which brings me to D and N’s relationship that always gets erased and I don’t even mean just on a romantic level but on s platonic one as well that’s how you now no matter how the show portrays their relationship fans will hate her no matter what. But talking pre show why are there more stories about Daemon/Laena or Daemon/Rhaenyra even Daemon/Mysaria then there is about him and Nettles. There’s nothing to indicate either of these relationships especially the first two were romantic but for a long time Laena was used as the self insert for D’s true love before they switched to R lol. And I mean self insert because we barely had any idea what their relationship was beyond them probably having affection for each other considering D’s reaction to her dying. No matter how you choose to interpret him and N there’s more info about them together and his feelings for her then there is for the other three women put together yet whenever D’s relationships are discussed N is always cut.🙄

No don’t apologize for “ranting” lol I enjoy these ask’s/discussions. Nettles 👩🏾🐑🐉 is criminally underrated period and she’s one of if not the most interesting characters in F&B.

She comes from less than a humble background and she’s potentially the only non Valyrian dragon riders that we know of in the ASOIF universe. And was you pointed out she is the last dragon rider as well. She straight up rocks!

I hate saying it, but one of the main reasons why she is less talked about/loved is because she’s the only in canon(not partially race swapped) “Black/Blackish” character in the actual books. Nettles is cut from the list because it’s hard for them to picture

In book canon Laena, Rhaenyra, and Mysaria are all “white” so there being more stories on them prior to HOTD makes sense. They could self into them(now they only have Rhaenyra) so of course they would show them more love.

There does seem to be more information on how Daemon felt about Nettles (as well as their day to day lives with one another), but their relationship in general(romantic and platonic) is just glossed over in favor of his other relationships by certain parts of this fandom.

For Christs sake’s some of them are literally calling for Nettles to be cut from the show entirely cause they straight up do not want her anywhere near Daemon in any capacity 🙃 We can see what you are doing when you say this.

There is no way to separate Nettles from Daemon so the next best thing replace her with or girl Rhaena and make sure that Daemon can only be with Rhaenyra.

Mysaria really isn’t that much of a threat in their eyes cause they know he never really was “in love with her”(especially not during the war). They were just f*ck buddies and she was his master of whispers, but whatever romantic feelings he held for her were long dead.

Nettles on the other hand, well they wouldn’t be putting up all this fuss if they really thought that he only saw her as his daughter and not someone he deeply cared about in a less fatherly capacity.

Side note: Them switching up saying Laena is the love of Daemon’s life then switching up to Rhaenyra being the love of his life cause Laena is Blackish in the show will never not be funny 🫠

I do think Laena was the wife Daemon loved the most in the books and I do believe that he at some point “loved” all of his love interests(well not Rhea obviously lol), but whether he was “in love” with all of them 🤷🏽‍♀️

I will stand by the fact that he was probably in love with Nettles though. There was no reason why he was doing all that he did for her when he stood little to gain from it. Nettles would have fought for Rhaenyra whether or not Daemon showered her with attention and affection.

Nettles was honorable/loyal as well so she would have never betrayed Rhaenyra. Which I have seen some of these stans claim who try to justify their queen making the idiotic/insane decision to order a 17 year olds murder without even questioning her🫠

nettles was theorized being the only non valyrian to claim a dragon the same way the shepherds did for yrs, for some reason its now that ppl suddenly believe she's his daughter which was never a popular theory or even entertained until daem*ras started to go crazy on twitter

their fake outrage about nettles is also very funny considering rhaenyra was 15 (or younger in the books) when she started getting groomed and kissed by daemon in brothels and suddenly they think he cant have an emotional affair with a young girl when we all know daem*ra is a crumbling relationship at best it was never really interesting in the books cause there relationship is barely touched on

I think these fans know that Nettles isn’t his daughter, but the fact that they insist that Daemon only saw her in a father/daughter light does not make sense. Yes one source does claim that Daemon saw Nettles like a daughter, but that same source also says that Daemon and Nettles bathed naked together 🫠

They will wholeheartedly believe the first claim at face value. This is the main basis of their argument against the romantic relationship between Daemon and Nettles. Cause that is the only source that claims Daemon saw her as his daughter, but somehow the second claim(made by the same source) is a lie or it’s not what it appears to be🫠

I don’t want to go there, but did these fans bathe naked with their dad or their father figure at 17? No one is having father daughter bonding time naked with their dad(if you are let me call the cops for you cause that’s not right).

Yes Nettles grew up an orphan who lived on the streets, but there is no reason for Daemon to hop in the bath with her to show her how to bathe properly.

The man was prince and the castle they were staying at had plenty of female servants that could help Nettles out. Nettles was also not an infant. She could bathe herself. Use your brains people.

They do not care about the “grooming” they only care that Nettles will be the “final blow” to Daemyra(which is why they are so defensive). If they really cared they would dislike Daemon x Rhaenyra as much as they do Daemon X Nettles.

The ship is stale and that is what gets me. If you read the book(s) Daemyra is not this epic romance these stans are making it out to be. Their relationship on screen is dry to me. Daemon has 0 chemistry with adult Rhaenyra.

It’s like am I watching the same show? Show!Daemon is being portrayed as this man obsessed with proving himself(he’s like this in the books) and has a general love for chaos.

His approach to his wives so far and just everyone in general is not the most loving(an understatement I know). I’ve got a problem with this, cause I think Daemon does have the capacity to care for/love others w/o a motive, but I won’t get into that right now.

The director/show creator has come out and said that Daemon is lowkey obsessed/in love with his brother and sees Rhaenyra as an extension of him, but you guys somehow think Rhaenyra is the love of his life 🙃 Whatever drugs these people are on I want it cause I too would like to be that delusional.

Can I just add the way they not only weaponise Laena in order to give the impression they care about black women but the fact that they criticised the shoe not having D be in love with her despite L being N’s age on the show when he married and has two kids with her in the span of like 2 years. They conveniently ignore the fact that D endangered teenage L’s health by impregnating her twice in such a rapid succession which might have later caused her to have problems with giving birth again like it was the case with Aemma(Alicent was really lucky the same didn’t happen to her ugh)but love to bring up how young N is in order to make it look like her fans want her to be groomed and abused which is not the case at all.🙄

Yeah Laena is just used as a defense mechanism against their hate of Nettles. They do not care about her either.

Show Laena was only impregnated once by Daemon as a teenager(their girls are twins at least they are supposed to be twins in the books), but yeah that probably messed her up/affected her ability to safely have other children.

These Daemyra stans could care less about the age gap/“potential grooming” between Daemon and Nettles. It is just an excuse they use to make it seem like they have Nettles “best interest at heart.” 🫠

Dumbnyra stans low-key be funny talking bout some "Daemon groomed/abused Nettles. Anyone who ships them are gross! She deserves better." And I'm like first of all they be calling Dettles this and that as if they don't be actively shipping UNCLE AND NIECE. Second if Dumbnyra isn't grooming (it is) it sure as hell is abuse because last time I checked choking your partner (non-consensually) is domestic violence which is abuse. And yeah while Daemon doesn’t physically abuse Rhaenyra in the book(s) it isn’t this great love story they are making it out to be because when crazy a** Rhaenyra needs Daemon the most, she straight up just wants him back with her and tries to kill Nettles to “free him,” this man says deuces, goes against her orders to save the “misunderstanding,” and possibly gets himself killed(we never saw a body so I’m holding onto the possibility he lived) rather than go back to her 🙃

Go read the sections of Fire & Blood where Rhaenyra goes on her racist tangent and then the part where Daemon reads her execution orders for Nettles if you don't believe me📖

They can’t read and cling to the fanon scenarios they’ve created in their head to prop up that sinking hellfire of a ship. They so desperately want Rhaenyra to be his light when she’s just not. Both in the show and the book(s).

In the book(s), his light patches are Nettles, Laena, and his girls. They’ve screwed over his relationship with Laena and their girls in the show so now it’s up to Nettles to show that the man is morally gray and they can’t stand that 🤷🏽‍♀️

In a sort of AU type reality what do you think Nettles and Daemons relationship would look like after the war?

Oh let’s see. In this scenario, Team Black has actually won the war and Aegon II was overthrown so I imagine that Daemon would arrive back at four with Nettles as his unofficial mistress(officially she’s Baela or Rhaena’s lady companion).

I’d like to say he’d take her as his second wife, but that’s pretty much impossible given the fact that polygamous marriages are longer sanctioned and Rhaenyra’s reign would be on shaky ground so testing the Faith is a no-go.

He’s obviously worked out some deal with Rhaenyra where he publically supports as Prince Consort does his duties as protector of the realm, but his private life is his own.

Privately, Nettles is his wife in all but name. Come on, did you guys see how domestic they were at Maidenpool? That domesticity(sleeping in adjoining chambers, taking their meals together, council, the baths, etc.) continues in the capitol 🥰

I think Nettles at this point has gotten rid of most of her apprehensions about being his mistress, but the court can be daunting and extremely judgmental. For respectability’s sake, and to quell some of the gossip, Daemon might try to find a husband for her (if she wishes it).

Lol that marriage would never be consummated and Daemon would in fact have the groom wait outside of Nettles' rooms on their wedding night, that is if the man isn’t a friend of Dorothy😬

The only problem I can see interrupting this blissful pair would come in the form of Nettles falling pregnant(someone forgot to brew the moontea🫢)

Nettles is a little shock and apprehensive to tell Daemon, but shes so relieved to find out he’s happy about the baby.

Rhaenyra completely flips out and snaps (and Mysaria because she’s still around). She’s tolerated Nettles up until then, but the baby(especially after she lost her last one) makes her go full-blown evil queen.

Poison may find its way into Nettles' morning tea, but Daemon takes no precautions with her health and safety, especially when she’s in such a delicate state, so, of course, she has tasters for her. It doesn’t take long for Daemon to get to the bottom of the poisoning and figure out obviously it does not end well for Queenie and her mistress of whisperers🗡️
