Red Oak bow: This bow now has 1-1/2” of reflex...and a draw weight over 60# at 26” again. I am looking to bring the draw in at 55# at 28” with a straight standing bow. I don’t mind a little string follow, but I’d rather heat the belly and finish up with a straight bow.

4/01/17; I have steamed the lever fades so I can add some recurve/reflex into the lever area. This is not a true recurve, as far as I am concerned. This is more like adding lots of reflex into the static limb area. And this is not the same as building a static recurve, but it’s closer. I think it will end up looking nice on the finished bow however. I just clamp the limb into this short form. Which I made from the cut out of another form.

I also roughed out the handle of the little Maple bow. Pretty quick work with the Surform and a round file. I leave the grip flat while tillering, this just help me keep the bow and tiller stick in the right position while checking the bend.

3/26/17: I spent some time working on the little Maple flat bow today. I marked the preliminary limb thickness I wanted. Then used the Surform to reduce the wood down to the line, leaving the ridge down the middle.

Limb thickness: I marked both limbs with a line to indicate 5/8" thickness. I used the Surform again to remove wood from the edges of the limb, leaving the line intact. I left a ridge of material down the middle of the limb. Once I have the edges evenly reduced, I flatten out the ridge. I clean up the limb with some 60 grit sandpaper.
