Disclaimer: This is My Personal Opinion
Imo, director/writer should have fleshed out Sun’s childhood more. I know he was adopted and was lead to believe that his sole purpose in this world is to be Sky’s shield and blood donor. In theory, I empathize with his reasoning on drawing the line with Sky. If I think about it, I get it. However, I didn’t feel it because we didn’t really see child!Sun being emotionally abused. We didn’t particularly see any scene that lead him to believe that he’s just a bodyguard.
We saw him getting adopted, being taught how to fight, and Dad asking him donate his blood for Sky. That’s it. We’re just left to read between the lines (was Dad mean to him? How was his relationship with Dad?). His personal angst wasn’t built up enough and because I don’t really know how deep Sun’s wounds are, I felt underwhelmed with the “I’m just a bodyguard” excuse and couldn’t really sympathize with him that much. He just became so unnecessarily frustrating to me in this episode.
Sky’s anger was justified (altho some of his actions were too rude, I kinda wanted to slap him 😬). I mean, he confessed and got dumped for an excuse he can’t comprehend because Sun is acting too much of a sad boii to explain. Sun was the one who drew the line first. He was the one hiding behind the boss-bodyguard relationship. To Sky, it may have also sounded as “you’re not my friend, you’re just a job” so it must have been frustrating and painful to think that Sun only cares for him because he has to.
