Paul Orndorff squares off with Tully Blanchard on Mid-South television in April of 1982! I always loved watching these two wrestle throughout the 1980s and now I get to see them wrestle each other! Tully asks for a handshake at the start of the match, but swipes at Orndorff instead! He sneaks a knee lift into Orndorff’s midsection and attempts an Irish whip into the corner, but it is reversed! Orndorff gives Blanchard an arm drag as he rebounds off the turnbuckles! Paul Orndorff is fired up and ready to fight as Blanchard begs off! Tully manages to slap on a headlock, rabbit punching Orndorff out of the referee’s view! Mr. Wonderful responds in kind to the delight of the Mid-South fans! Tully is a great wrestler, but he is having a difficult time taming the stallion that is Paul Orndorff! Orndorff takes Tully down to the mat and expertly works over his arm! Blanchard sneaks in a thumb to the eye and immediately takes control of the match with an elbow from the second rope! He goes for a standing suplex, but Orndorff reverses and delivers one of his own! Mr. Wonderful applies the Boston Crab, but Tully powers out before the hold can take effect! Tully slaps on a figure-four leglock and has Orndorff in trouble! Fortunately, Orndorff knows how to reverse the hold and does exactly that! Blanchard is the one in trouble now! Suddenly, North American heavyweight champion Bob Roop bursts onto the scene! He climbs to the top rope and delivers a flying knee drop to Orndorff, who is unaware of Roop’s presence! Paul Orndorff is declared the winner via disqualification! I’m sure he will have something to say about Roop’s interference, especially since Orndorff is hot on his trail to regain the North American title! What an action-packed five minutes of professional wrestling goodness!

In the long storied history of professional wrestling, many spandex clad gladiators have grabbed our attention and captured our imaginations. These colorful characters remain in the deepest recesses of our minds years after their glory days in the ring have passed. The most memorable grapplers from our years of wrestling fandom are often those that we encounter early on in our initial discovery…

Junkyard Dog defends the Mid-South Louisiana heavyweight championship against Bob Roop in July of 1982! "Another One Bites the Dust" blares over the PA as the JYD enters the ring and I'm stoked! He's got quite a challenger in Bob Roop, ladies and gentlemen! Roop is something of a forgotten footnote to most of today's wrestling fans, but he actually competed as a Greco-Roman heavyweight in the 1968 Olympic Games! He made a point to flaunt his credentials everywhere he went, be it in Florida or San Francisco or here in Louisiana! However, the Junkyard Dog does not care about Bob Roop's amateur wrestling background! He cares about remaining the Louisiana heavyweight champion and being a hero of the people! The Junkyard Dog will overcome all of the odds and walk tall while he lives up to the title of his theme song!
