bobbypontillas: The 2nd season of Tangled premiered last weekend! King Edmund was one of the last characters I worked on for the show, here are some early exploration drawings. I was always inspired by my co-worker and friend , @taylorkrahenbuhl 's ability to push around shapes dramatically to emphasize a character's personality, and with so much variety ! It's interesting to see how much another artist you worked with everyday influences you own work, I love when that happens. ~via @bobbypontillas on Instagram

“amandajollylines: TANGLED || ep 203, The Return of Quaid: So here’s the side of character design you don’t normally see - the team effort. When I came on the show, @bobbypontillas had done the amazing full-body prelim of Quaid you see on the left, but as the episode developed, the late great Reg E. Cathey was picked to voice him. The design’s race needed to change accordingly. . . That’s where I tagged in. The team loved Bobby’s design and the space his Quaid had taken up, so I had to keep those things in mind while creating the updated version. Sometimes character design is head-design. :) . . On a personal note, this was the first full ep of ours I ever watched back when it was in board form, so it holds a special place. . . “ ~via @jollylines on Instagram

bobbypontillas(Cont...) So after a round of notes , we centered in on this guy. The goal at this point is to provide solid reference for the story artists that board the episode. So I’ll provide different angles and action and acting poses to help. After the episode is all on story reels , the designer will then do turnarounds, and depending on how complex the characters are , they’ll also do mouth charts ,extreme up and down angles , etc. I left before that time so my EP, Ben Balistreri, finalized the design, color stylists will determine his palette , all getting it prepped it for @mercuryfilmworks, our amazing animation studio.
