One of the great things about having children who live on the other side of the world is that you have a great reason to go there. . . Last fall, my husband and I traveled to Tbilisi in the Republic of Georgia, via Munich at the tail end of Oktoberfest. . . In Munich, we checked out the Residenz and Stuck Villa museums, saw many churches and eateries, then met Twitter friend, @robert_of_loxley, and his wife for dinner at Hofbrauhaus. Moments like that tell me it's possible any of us could cross paths one day! . . Once in Tbilisi, our son and daughter-in-law, @queenhorsfall, were the best tour guides. They made sure we saw local places like Abanotubani in old Tbilisi and trendy Fabrika, to Uplistsikhe, an ancient cave town (1000 b.c.) and beyond. . . We traveled to a monastery a few miles from the Russian border. We explored Signagi, Kakheti (wine country), and traveled to Batumi on the Black Sea. . . We saw a new addition to the Bodbe monestery using traditional materials and techniques. The expense would be the first reason why we never see anything like it built in the U.S. The second reason is, there's no one alive who has the skills. . . We were amazed with the people and the country. Plus everything was a bargain. Have you been there? If you have a chance to check out the Republic of Georgia, don't miss it!
