We recently took a quick trip to our country home near Mt Rainier. 🏔️ On the way, we drove through the town of Eatonville and passed by Alder Lake 🌊 which serves as a reservoir for the Alder Dam on the Nisqually River. . . There are times when Alder Lake is full, deep blue and beautiful. 💦 People will be playing in the water or 🤽♀️ on boats! 🚣♀️ Not this trip! . . When the reservoir is emptied it reveals an eerie landscape that looks post apocalyptic 🧟♂️🧟♀️ and scary. You wonder what happened? . . The lake bed (shown) was once covered with a forest. When the trees were logged, Alder Dam was built and the stumps were left behind! 🌲🌳 The water seems to preserve them since the trees were cut 75 years ago. . . An hour from Alder Lake is the town of Randle. Our kids spent time there during summers while growing up. 🧒🧒 Fast forward a couple of decades: both boys and our DIL are all here, so we all went to the house, which overlooks the Big Bottom Valley! 🏡 . . Up a long driveway covered in needles and leaves, we arrived to spend time together, and to decorate a tiny 5' (1.5m) Noble Fir for guests who will be staying over Christmas.🎄 . . Washington State, (where Seattle is located) is the nation's highest producer of hydroelectric power. 🔌⚡ . . Do you have hydroelectric power where you live? Or wind or solar? ☀️ . . Thanks #verizon for our flawless connectivity. Shot with #googlepixel2xl because #bettermatters. .
