Synopsis: Desperate to find his missing daughter, a father agrees to help a mysterious woman assassinate a novelist. At the same time, the young hero in the book’s alternate universe has also put his revenge plan into motion, and his actions begin to affect the real world.

Mechanical implants, perhaps first used to help, turned into something used to harm. A brace on a broken femur that can be used to stretch apart the bone and break it further just as much as it can help set it. Implants to stabilize a diseased heart, able to simulate a heart attack at the push of a button or flick of a switch.
