Interesting post for you flute lot out there

So recently I went to the instrument museum in Brussels and saw these flutes.

I’m sure as 90% of you know, the modern flute we play on today was designed by Boehm and in these pictures you can see the progression through the instruments to an early Boehm model.

Essentially the evolution of the flute.

In particular, you can see the differences between the shapes of the instruments and how they went from conical bodies with a cylindrical head joint to cylindrical bodies with a conical head in the Boehm flute. This made the sound project much more, made it much bigger.

The difference in key work speaks for itself.

The top flute was made of crystal, the middle, wood and the Boehm, metal.

I really enjoyed playing my little game of “spot the differences” with these flutes and I hope you all find it interesting too! :)
