Korra

- Loves to make you laugh, whether it's a loud laugh or just an exhale of breath she loves to do it as much as possible. She thinks your laugh is adorable. - Korra knows a lot of sign language but is working at becoming fluent because she wants to be able to communicate with you to the fullest extent. She also finds it extremely useful in her Avatar duty as it opens her up to the non-verbal and non-hearing community. - Arguments are really funny because Korra loves to provoke people and verbally argue when angry but you don't take the bait and can easily block her out. You can also non-verbally argue much better than she can so get your way most of the time. - You balance each other out well as Korra is always pretty rash, loud and aggressive whereas you take more time to process words and behaviour. As a result Korra has learned to be calmer from you but will also react on your behalf if someone is ever being rude. - You communicate a lot through your bending. Korra is pretty much an expert at bending forms and you both get a lot from sparring together. - Gets you to read all her Avatar speeches because you're a lot better at communicating than her. - Loves showing off her Avatar powers to impress you. You used to do weights together but that turned out to be a bad idea because Korra would get too distracted trying to get you to check her out. - You're very close to Tenzin and Korra's Republic City family as the air nation is the most inclusive nation and they understand your lifestyle. You love having game nights over at Air Temple island because 1. you and Korra crush it every time and 2. they all know sign language and so all night use your language rather than you having to adapt for them.

Bolin

- Very talkative, definitely talks enough for the both of you but importantly always looks for responses whether that's signing, nods, smiles or any preferred form of communication. He never talks at you but has a conversation with you - Loves to learn more about your experience and the first time he met you he definitely bored all his friends with random facts he'd learnt for like a month. - Refuses to ever let you apologise or feel odd for being different. He's always the first person to tell you you're beautiful and valid no matter if you're deaf or mute - Will literally do anything if you ask him to. At first, Bolin would need a few helpful hints at how he can change his behaviour to be more inclusive but he'd always be receptive to any suggestion you gave him. - Bolin really struggles to use sign language but attends classes and practices every day. You actually really love helping him learn because Bolin never gets frustrated or annoyed. He just tries again and his reaction when he gets it is wonderful. - The only thing that annoys him is Pabu listens to you more than him. He can be calling him for ages but all you have to do is gently stamp your foot and he comes running. - Always notices you. You met when he was a pro-bender and there could be hundreds of fans screaming his name but his eyes will always go straight to you and a smile from you is enough to put him in a good mood for hours.

Asami

- Extremely attentive, to the extent you just have to make a face or look at her and she can guess from the situation what you need. - Would probably invent you tons of cool contraptions just to make your life easier e.g. a bed that shakes when your alarm goes off or a machine that communicates for you in public. - Asami learned sign language in like a week after she met you, she's just that good. - She never presumes to answer for you just because you're mute/deaf. She always lets you answer when someone asks a question and only jumps in if you ask her to. She knows you are capable and never patronises you. - Teaches you how to play pai sho and instantly regrets it. While she can usually read you well there's no deciphering your poker face and her cries of protest just make you smirk. - Loves treating you to gifts and surprises. Asami is rich af and so you receive amazing personalised presents at every special occasion. - She seems really strong on the outside but is more vulnerable and soft with you. You're her support system and she comes to you whenever she's stressed or nervous about something. You're an excellent shoulder to cry on and she values your advice over anyone else's. - Similarly you also feel you can show your weaknesses around Asami. Being different you often felt like you had to always prove you were just as good as a non-deaf/non-mute person to be worthy. With Asami it's not like that, she makes you realise you're already perfect which helps you laugh more when you do make mistakes. For example one day Asami got a call from your neighbours because you were blasting music without realising how loud it was. When she rushed home to tell you, you both found it hilarious and it became a running joke between you.

Mako

- Protective, when you go out in public he makes you walk on the inside of the street in case a car comes too close and you can't hear it/don't realise. - Isn't a naturally noisy or talkative person so really likes the quiet and doesn't struggle adjusting at all. He actually gets overwhelmed when he leaves your home at how noisy people are. - Decides the non-verbal and non-hearing community need better treatment so meets with Beifong about having all officers learn sign language. Mako himself is of course fluent in sign language and the two of you have tons of shortcuts and signs the two of you invented yourself. - Finds it easier to open up to you than other people. Mako has never been good with words and so he finds a freedom in communicating with you. You know more about him than anyone else does. - Only introduces you to his friends after you've been dating a while not because he's nervous for them to meet you but because he's nervous for you to meet them! He considers himself pretty lucky to have met you and doesn't want them to scare you off. So he's overly cautious but when you do meet them of course you all get along great. Mako was worried for nothing. - Learns to read the micro-expressions and body language you convey. According to Mako you have ten different types of smiles, he loves your really big smile but his favourite is your small embarrassed smile when he catches you doing something cute and he loves complimenting you on it. - Mako has never been an animal person but you convince him to get a cat and he loves the thing! You name her Sheddy Shin because she sheds so much hair which Mako finds hilarious (you call her shed for short).

Okay, let's be honest, this boy would 100% be all over you.

For real, he would not leave your side whenever you're sick.

He just wants to make sure you're fine and well attended.

He'd also try to cheer you up with jokes or just entertain you with his words.

I feel like he'd ask Katara to help him prepare some soup for you because he'd make a mess.

He'd tell you that he made the soup for you but it's obvious he's lying.

Once you're done eating, you two would cuddle.

He obviously doesn't care about getting sick too, he just wants to be by your side.

As you rested your head on his chest, he'd kiss your forehead and he'd try to make you laugh.

He'd obviously succeed, and before falling asleep, you'd thank him for being so great.

Hearing you say that made his heart explode, he loved you do much and he loved knowing that you felt the same way.

Bolin

This boy is the sweetest person on earth, and when you're sick his sweetness would even duplicate.

He'd be around you all the time and he'd always be touching you.

He loves holding your hand so I feel like he'd never let go of it when you're sick.

I feel like the two of you would stay home just relaxing.

You two would just be on the couch cuddling while he ran his hands down your back.

Of course, Pabu would be with you two, trying to stay warm and also enjoying some head scratches from time to time.

When you're sick you always have a bit of a hard time falling asleep.

Bolin's voice always relaxes you so you'd ask him to read a book out loud for you.

You end up falling asleep, and he thinks you're the most precious being in the world.

He'd try so hard not to wake you up, knowing how difficult it was for you to sleep.

Pabu would cuddle next to you, wanting to be close to his other favourite person.

That view is enough to fill Bolin's heart, and he'd think of how lucky he was to have you by his side.

He'd kiss you softly on the forehead and then he'd do some chores since he knew you clearly didn't feel well enough to do them.

A few hours later, he'd wake you up with a plate of your favourite soup to help you feel better.

He'd bring you a blanket to help you stay warm.

You absolutely loved how caring he was, he was an amazing boyfriend, and every single day you fell in love with him all over again.

summary: the story of a girl who manifested her soulmate as a child and a guy just looking for his ferret

a/n: this is for the second prompt of an avatar/tlok writing collaboration that @twilight-toph is doing! the masterlists for the collab can be found here :)

a/n again: also i totally didn’t get the idea off of practical magic aka the best witch movie ever to grace this world

When Y/N was eight years old, she dreamed of finding her prince charming.

She would have her parents read love stories to her every night. She remembered one myth that her mother once told her called the Red Strings of Fate, which entailed an invisible thread that connected one to their soulmate. She believed it to be true until she took the idea too literally, and was frustrated to find there was no red string attaching her parents together.

One night, Y/N had to the crazy idea to create her own soulmate. Her perfect match. She grabbed a glass jar and her mother’s herbs and spices. She collected everything and brought it into the dining room and stood on chair. She thought for a while, what her perfect match be like?

“His favorite color will be green,” Y/N manifested, picking up a random green leaf for her parents’ tea, dropping it into the jar. “And very handsome.” Another leaf went into the jar.

“Y/N? What are you doing in there?” Her father asked from the sitting area. He was listening to the radio, and she could faintly hear a Pro-Bending Tournament happening.

“Nothing!” She shouted to him as she picked up a random white powder from a bowl. “And he’ll be famous.”

She picked up a few red flakes from a tiny jar. “He’ll always have something red on him. Like the strings of fate.”

Y/N thought of what else he would like, scanning around the room. She noticed her cat owl, Mittens, looking up at her from under the table.

“He’ll have the cutest pet in the whole wide world,” The young girl manifested as she picked some sugar between her index finger and thumb, sprinkling it into the glass jar. “And he’ll love noodles!” She ran to the kitchen and grabbed a noodle from a large bowl that was meant for supper. She hurried back into the dining room and dropped the noodle into the jar.

“It’s perfect!” Y/N exclaimed. She closed the jar and shook up the ingredients. “Wait. I’m missing something.”

Y/N made her way back to the kitchen, leaving a mess on the table. She found a pitcher of water and opened the jar again. She catiously poured some of the liquid into the jar, trying not to drip it onto the floor, but failing. She set the pitcher down and closed the jar before shaking her love potion again.

“Mama, I made a magic potion!” She announced as her mother entered the kitchen, unaware that she was about to get in trouble for making a massive mess.

Ten years later, Y/N still remembered that night fondly. She kept the jar under her bed despite mold beginning to grow.

One chilly autumn day, she was dressed warmly. Her mother sent to the markets to grab a few things for dinner that night. She made her way through the streets of Republic City, smiling politely at the passing strangers. Eventually, Y/N found herself at the markets. She gently picked up a large, red tomato, inspecting it carefully. As she rotated it, she felt something on her leg, like tiny claws poking her through her pants. She looked down and saw a...rodent with red fur? She shrieked, nearly jumping out of her skin and accidentally dropping the tomato onto the pavement. The rodent flinched but continued to cling onto her clothes, and began climbing up her leg and into her coat pocket. Y/N froze, not knowing what to do. She saw it poke its head out, and look up at her curiously. The more she looked at it, it looked pretty cute. Actually, extremely cute.

“Hey! You’re gonna have to pay for that tomato!” The merchant suddenly yelled at her, pointing down to the tomato guts spread across the street.

“I’m so sorry, ma’am!” Y/N apologized, reaching into her pocket to where the thing was. She gently pulled it out, realizing it was fire ferret, before set it on her shoulder. It held one of her coins in its paws, which Y/N snatched and handed to the angry woman. The woman flared her nostrils at her and turned away. Y/N turned her head to look at the fire ferret.

“You’re in big trouble, sir,” She said sternly, but not being able to hold any seriousness. “You’re lucky you’re so cute.”

Y/N stepped away from the tomato stand and continued down the street.

“Do you have an owner, buddy?” She asked the ferret, who simply squeaked in response. “I’ll take that as a maybe.”

She made her to the next stand full of cabbages. She picked up two, paid for them, and the merchant for that stand thanked her before handing them back in a brown paper bag. The fire ferret chirped, sniffing down at the bag.

“No, mister, that’s not for you,” Y/N scolded quietly.

“Pabu!” A voice behind her shouted. The fire ferret on Y/N’s shoulder perked up before quickly climbing down her body, running in the direction behind her. She turned around and saw a guy who looks frantic and out of breath.

“Oh, is that little guy yours?” She asked as the man approached her. She instantly noticed his piercing green eyes.

“Yes! Thank you so much for finding him and taking care of him!” The guy said as the red fire ferret, she assumed who was named Pabu, jumped into his arms.

“He’s a mischievous little guy. He made me drop a tomato and then tried to rob me!” Y/N explained, breathing out a laugh.

“I don’t even know what got into him! We were reading today’s paper and he just took off! I spent, like, forever looking for him!” The guy said, giving really dramatic arm gestures. “And bad Pabu! We don’t steal from strangers!”

Pabu’s ears tucked back in response, seemingly ashamed of himself.

“I thought he was massive rat at first! He scared the hell out me,” She said, gaining a laugh from the guy.

“I’m Bolin, by the way,” He introduced himself. “You might’ve heard of me and my brother, Mako. We play for the Pro-Bending Fire Ferrets Team!”

“Oh, yeah! My father and I have listened to many of your matches!” Y/N said, smiling, and feeling a little starstruck. “And I’m Y/N.”

“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Y/N,” Bolin replied while grinning, his emerald eyes sparkling. He held out his hand, which she took, and shook it firmly. “And you’ve already met Pabu.”

She smiled, reaching her hand out to pet Pabu’s red fur, who was planted firmly on Bolin’s shoulder.

“I have to repay you somehow! Would you like to accompany Pabu and I to Narook’s Seaweed Noodlery? They have the best seaweed noodles in Republic City!” He offered. Y/N felt her stomach grumble.

“Oh, wow. That sounds great actually,” She replied. “I just need to finish getting a couple things for my mother.”

“Of course, of course. We’ll tag along with you!” Bolin insisted. Y/N nodded eagerly, sending him a warm smile. He lifted his arm, offering it to her. She didn’t hesitate to wrap hers around it, and they began their walk down the pavement.

Pabu jumped over to Bolin’s other shoulder closest to Y/N’s and settled in between. As they made their to next food stand, her mind began to wander to the potion she made years ago.

Laughs filtered through the air, along with the clinking of glasses and the chatter of companions. Everyone you knew to be apart of your crazy life after meeting Korra and getting swept up in Avatar Business™ was gathered, and then there were others you weren’t familiar with mixed in. However, this did nothing to hinder your mood, and you danced freely with Ikki on the dance floor regardless of who was around. 

Bolin watched you from afar, a dreamy grin on his face. He stood with Mako and Wu, who had tagged along with his brother. The three were on the far side of the room, and Wu was going on about something or another, and Bolin couldn’t find it in himself to listen. Not when you were dressed so nicely, or when your eyes twinkled as you laughed loudly, or when you twirled around with the one person who seemed to match your energy perfectly, or when he kept thinking about you with and his daughter in another life. 

He didn’t notice when Wu dragged Mako away, and he also didn’t notice the hostess of the party herself replace them. Not until she cleared her throat and he jerked his head to the side. “Oh, hey, Asami...” he grinned shyly, his cheeks warming at having been caught in the act. 

“Hey, Bolin,” she grinned. “Whatcha doing?” She questioned knowingly. 

“Ah,” he hesitated, voice rising in pitch. “Nothing, nothing. Just,” he shrugged his shoulders and extended his arms out. “Enjoying this party you threw! Congratulations by the way!” 

Asami nodded her head with a grin, knowing there was more to it. “Thank you, Bolin, it really means a lot. We’ve been working really hard at Future Industries so I Korra and I thought it’d be a good idea to celebrate,” she smiled as her eyes scanned the crowd for the girl mentioned. Bolin did the same, and his heart melted when he spotted you. 

You were dragging Korra onto the dance floor, Ikki at your side with the older girls other hand grasped tightly. When the pair of you managed to drag her out there, triumphant laughs and high fives and all, she picked you both up and spun you around. “You know, (y/n) is a really great person,” Asami chimed, and the earthbender dragged his eyes away from you. “I mean, we all love them, and they have so much potential,” he looked at Bolin and leaned in a bit closer. “And we know that you like them.” 

He choked on air, and jerked away from the girl like she’d zapped him with her electric glove. “W-what?” He asked, drawing the word out. “No I don’t,” he laughed nervously. “Asami, don’t be silly.” 

“Oh, come on, Bo,” she shook her head. “You’re not that slick.” 

Bolin sighed, and his shoulders slumped. She was right, he wasn’t that slick. You probably already knew of his feelings and hadn’t spoke on them because you didn’t return them. “But,” Asami’s voice lifted his head, his curiosity peaking at her tone. “I happen to know that they actually feel the same about you, and I’m tired of watching the two of you lie to yourselves about the other. So I’m going to help you make a move at this party because I love you, and you deserve this.” 

Warmth spread across his chest and he launched himself forward, wrapping his arms around Asami in a tight hug. She laughed and returned the gesture, laying her head on his. “Thanks, Sami,” he whispered. 

“Of course, Bo,” she whispered back, and the moment was oh so sweet, and it reminded him why he had always liked having her around. She was good, and nice, and smart, and would always be there for you. After another moment they pulled away from one another, and Bolin stared at her excitedly as she watched you, Ikki, and Korra cause an absolute scene on the dance floor. 

“Okay, so I really think you should ask them to dance. It’s way better than just standing around talking, it gives you something else to focus on so your nerves aren’t settled on just one thing,” she informed. 

“You want me to dance with them?! What if I step on their feet, or-” he rambled, but Asami cut him off. 

“Bolin, this song is about to end and you’re going to ask them to dance.” She stared him straight in the eyes and left no room for discussion, he had to do this now or he never would; and you would just keep telling yourselves that it’s just unrequited love.

It most certainly wasn’t just unrequited love. 

And all too soon, before he could pull himself out of his thoughts, the music drifted off and people scattered from the dance floor, taking a break between songs, and his heart leapt up into his throat. “Oh look, here they come!” Asami whispered as she waved, and when he looked he spotted you and Korra heading right for them. The adrenaline began coursing through his veins as if he was about to face a mighty villain, and he could have shit himself then and there. 

“Hey, guys,” Korra greeted, and wrapped her arm around Asami’s shoulders. She placed a kiss on the taller girl’s cheek, and she grinned brightly. 

“Hello to you too,” Asami chuckled. “That was quite the show you guys put on, I’m impressed.” 

“Thanks, it’s just one of my many talents,” you boasted jokingly, wiping your shoulder. “I break that shit down.” 

Bolin laughed, despite the maelstrom of emotions he was experiencing. “You sure did,” he chimed in, only slightly awkwardly, and you smiled at him. That sent a slight boost of confidence through him, and he proceeded on. “I-I was actually wondering if we could, maybe, catch the next, uh, slow song?” He stuttered through his question, cheeks bright red. 

“Sure!” You exclaimed excitedly, and your own cheeks heated up at your reaction. “I mean, yeah, of course, Bolin.” You smiled sweetly at him. 

“Well, the music should be starting soon, and I have some conversing to do,” Asami cuts in, exchanging a glance with her girlfriend. “So I’ll see you guys later. You coming, Korra?” 

“Sure thing,” she answered, allowing herself to be led away, throwing a wink at you over her shoulder. You didn’t get a chance to react, as a slow melody began filtering through the air, and you made eye contact with the boy in front of you. 

“Uh, shall we?” He asked, and you both chuckled at how cheesy it sounded. You nodded and grabbed his hand, pulling him to the middle of the floor. His heart raced the whole way there, and didn’t slow down when you placed your arms gently around his neck. 

“Is-is this okay?” He questioned as his hands barely touched the fabric covering your waist. Always the gentleman, that one. 

“Yeah, yeah,” you replied softly, eyes scanning his face. “It’s kind of perfect, actually.” 

He looked at you in surprise, and you just stared back, bodies swaying to the soft music. “It’s perfect?” He questioned just as softly. 

“Yeah,” you nodded. “It is perfect. I was wondering if you would ask me to dance tonight,” you confessed, voice so light Bolin had to lean in to hear you. “I was leaning towards no, so I’m pretty satisfied with where we are.” 

He grinned, mesmerized by you. His eyes never left your face, nothing else around you mattered. They flickered between your eyes, sparkling from the lights he and Mako had hung up over the dance floor when they had aided in the set up. Then they landed on your lips, and the words left his mouth before he could stop himself. 

“Well, then can I also ask if I-” his eyes went back to yours, and he faltered for a moment, but the curious look you had told him he had to continue. “Can I also ask if I can kiss you?” 

You nodded after a moment, his question having to register in your mind. He wanted to kiss you? And he answered you by leaning in closer and brushing his lips against your own, enough to heat your face up but not enough to satisfy you. 

You placed your hand on the back of his neck and pulled him back in after he began pulling away, and he grinned against your lips. The melodies, the lights, the dance, and Bolin, it was all perfect.

The Mission Bolin x Reader Series: Part Four

You return to Republic City and don’t recieve the warmest welcome but manage to prove to everyone where your loyalties lie...but can you show this to Bolin?

When you got back to Republic City you could’ve easily slunk away and buried your head in the sand but you didn’t. You went right to the council and shared with them everything you knew. You told them you’d accept any punishment they thought fair but asked you be allowed to help in the time being. Obviously they were all very wary of you but Varrick vouched for you. “She’s on our side now we promise! Kuvira was intimidating her as much as she was everyone else but Y/n stood up for us and is a very big part of why we're still here”. Varrick’s word didn’t seem to be doing much good though, which was understandable considering his past, so you stepped forwards ready to argue your case when Bolin beat you to it. “Varrick’s right. Y/n helped get us here and stood up to Kuvira for us...she can be trusted and she has invaluable knowledge. We’re going to need her to stop this”. Mako’s brother and the Avatar both nodded, convinced by Bolin’s world and that persuaded Tenzin and the others. “Fine!” Raiko nodded “you can help but we’ll be watching you like a hawk and the second you falter you’ll be locked away forever”. You nodded “I won’t let you down”. 

You hoped to catch Bolin after the meeting but Raiko grilled you for hours to get information about Kuvira and when you left Bolin was nowhere to be seen. The next day you found Mako, Bolin’s brother and asked if he knew where Bolin was staying. He directed you to Air Temple Island and you made your way there a bundle of nerves. You found Bolin outside playing with Pabu and smiled to see he seemed back to normal...or he did until he looked up and saw you. Oblivious, Pabu ran over to say hello before Bolin could intercept him. You stroked Pabu happily and Bolin stood up, coming towards you hesitantly. “Hey” you said softly “I’m really sorry to drop in on you like this but with the war coming I figured sooner would be better. Can we please talk?" you asked. Bolin sighed "i guess I can’t avoid it forever...let's go this way" and he led you to a private part of the island overlooking the ocean. You nodded and followed him in silence. Once you were sat down Bolin frowned "so...do you want to take the lead?". You nodded and took a breath. “I just wanted to apologise again for everything I did to you and give you a chance to ask any questions...I’m so sorry for everything Bolin and I know the journey here hasn’t solved anything. Is there anything you want to say to me?”. "Was it all just a game?" Bolin asked and you had a feeling this had been on his mind for a while. "Being nice to be, laughing with me, flirting with me...the whole time you were only speaking to me because she told you to right? Would you even have given me the time of day if she hadn't commanded you to?" Bolin asked. You nodded "of course I would have! Initially I did it because she told me to but after our first meeting I realised I enjoyed being around you and it stopped being a secret mission but something I wanted to do. I liked being around you Bolin, I would’ve acted the same way I promise". Bolin sighed "well unsurprising I don’t believe you" and he looked away upset. "Of course I want to believe you. I want to think you did care for me and like me but how can I even begin to trust you?" he pointed out. It was a very good question and one you didn’t have the answer to. You sighed "I don’t know" you replied honestly "I've hurt you in an awful way and I don’t know how I can ever do enough to repair that. To make you feel safe around me again but I promise I'm not going to quit until I do it. I'm not going to stop trying even if you lose interest or hate me. I will never stop trying to repay the damage I did because you mean a lot to me Bolin. While it wasn’t genuine at first it didn’t take long before it started being and by the end I’d really fallen for you. I know that ship has probably sailed for us forever but all I want is to get your friendship back. No matter how much work it takes". Bolin nodded "okay. I can’t promise anything but I also won’t tell you it’s impossible". You nodded to him "that’s more than I could’ve hoped for, thank you". Bolin nodded and walked away.

You heard Opal was in town the following day and figured she deserved an apology as well. You made your way to Lin Beifong’s apartment where Opal was staying and knocked twice. You were sure this wasn’t going to be pleasant and that was before you told her what you’d done to her and Bolin’s relationship. But still you wanted to wash away everything you'd done for your sister and the first step was being honest. So you’d deal with this and then you could move on.

The door opened and Opal appeared. "What do you want?" she asked. Great start, she hated you already. You winced and tried to look non-threatening. "I was hoping we could talk?" you asked. "Funny you two even think alike now" she replied and you paused "me and who?". "Bolin” she said and Opal moved back to reveal the living room where Bolin was sat awkwardly. He met your eye and you looked away "sorry I didn’t realise he was here...i’ll come back later". "No why don’t you stay?" Opal asked her voice dripping with anger "Bolin was just explaining how he broke up with me for you and I'd love to hear your side of things". You winced but Opal held the door open very menacingly for an airbender. You walked inside and sat in the only available chair which was next to Bolin. "So" Opal said standing in front of you both "carry on Bolin". Bolin coughed "so after we broke up I went to Y/n and I...we kissed". "The same night I left, right?" Opal asked. Bolin nodded "yes". "And you thought that was okay because...?". Bolin sighed "I knew it wasn’t but I hadn't seen you in so long and every time we did it was so tense. Things with Y/n had been building for a while and I was so emotional after our breakup it all just kind of burst out". Opal raised an eyebrow "so you're blaming me?". Bolin immediately denied that and went to explain himself when you stepped in. "Haven’t you told her what I did?". Bolin shook his head "I was getting to that part". You turned to her "Opal none of this was Bolin’s fault. Kuvira calculated it. She made a plan to have Bolin fall for me and I...I helped her. I seduced him and encouraged him to break up with you. I made myself seem like the better alternative and helped orchestrate the whole thing so if you want to be angry at anyone it should be me". Opal shook her head "you're acting like you twisted his arm behind his back and forced him to fall for you. Whether you encouraged it or not you didn't force him to do anything. You didn’t make him separate from me or make him kiss you. From what I've heard you actually stopped that. Bolin fell for you because he liked you" she said "and for me that's the ultimate betrayal because if he’d really have liked me and had no feelings for you to begin with then this would have never happened". "Opal please" Bolin cried as you said "let me explain it better" but she’d had enough. "No I'm done. You both said you wanted to explain and you did so get out. Bolin it’s over, stop blaming Y/n for your own actions and take responsibility. Y/n...well all the apologies in the world won’t resolve what you've done but I think I have an idea of how you can start". You frowned "how?". "You're going to help me break my family out of Kuvira’s prison".

All things considered risking your life to save Opal’s family who had been imprisoned by your sister, the one you helped takeover their home, seemed fair. So you agreed. Bolin had protested, claiming Opal shouldn’t just punish you but him too. That honestly hadn’t helped things and so you rode to the prison in a very stormy silence. Lin was smart enough not to get involved and stayed quiet. 

Once you got there you were soon joined by Toph and broke into the prison. The Beifongs were literally tossed to freedom and only when you got outside of the cell undetected did they all turn to you. "Y/n?" Su yin asked the first chance she got. "You came back to us?" Wei asked a smile on his face and you felt like crying. "No" Opal’s voice rang out "she was working against us the whole time. She’s only here because Kuvira made her go against Bolin and that was too much for her. Not us". The Beifongs all frowned and you hung your head, aware there were no words in the world you could say to make up for what you’d done to your real family. "Still..." Huan said suddenly "she’s here rescuing us and where’s Bataar? Our actual flesh and blood". You looked up to see the others were slowly nodding. Suyin smiled and stepped towards you "regardless I'm happy you're here and you're safe" she said offering you a hand “if you’re willing to make this first step then so are we”. You took one look at her kind face and burst into tears. "I'm so sorry! For everything" you sobbed and Su cradled you in her arms. "It's okay" she soothed and you finally felt safe. Opal understandably wasn’t happy but the others all forgave you. You explained why Opal hated you and how it was justified. The others all just replied she’d forgive you eventually and you felt so happy to have your family back. You were always closest to the twins and found yourself staying with them on the way back to Republic City. "So..." Wei asked "where did you and Bolin leave things?". You swallowed "I told him that I'd always care for him as more but I'd never stop trying to win his friendship back". You expected the twins to judge you for saying that to their little sister’s ex-boyfriend but they just nodded. "That seems fair" Wing nodded and you stared "how are you all not yelling at me?". Wei smiled softly "Y/n you may not be a Beifong by blood but you do realise we grew up as together right? To us you're family. So is Kuvira too and anything you've done doesn’t really matter now you've said sorry and are trying to put it right. We love you and we support you. Opal and Bolin were on the outs before you even got involved but he’s a nice guy. If you have something with him then we say go for it". "Really?" You asked tears in your eyes and Wei nodded "yes". “You’re the best brothers ever” you replied and the twins grinned to hear you finally call them that. 

When the final battle came you fought in it side by side with your earth bender family. You brought Kuvira’s giant mecha suit down and then Kuvira herself. Bolin got to the new spirit portal just in time to see Korra emerge with Kuvira. Bolin spotted you across the field and you were staring frozen as Lin and Su clamped handcuffs around your sister’s wrists and everyone celebrated. Bolin watched you warily and felt a pang of sadness. No matter what you’d done he still cared about you and seeing you upset made him sad. He went to step towards you when a twin appeared on either side of you. Wei touched your arm tentatively and you turned and buried your head against him crying. Wing joined the hug and Bolin was pleased to see atleast you’d reconnected with your family. Not wanting to ruin the moment Bolin walked away.

1 year later

After the battle you were pardoned by Raiko due to your help taking down Kuvira and so you didn’t serve any jail time. However you didn’t return to Zafou after the battle. Kuvira had done a lot of damage to Republic City, hundreds injured, thousands displaced and so many homes utterly destroyed. So, you decided to do something about it. 

Bolin witnessed the whole thing and saw first hand the stroke of genius ran in Kuvira’s bloodline family. You became lead of the restoration efforts and everyone soon forgot who's sister you were once your intentions became clear. The Beifong’s were a golden support system and Bolin saw even you and Opal were friends again which was nice. Opal had also told him she’d forgiven him and they were friends again but he knew that was all it would be with her. With you however that was a different story. Bolin still liked you. He knew it was stupid, most people would never consider going back to someone who did what you’d done but he couldn’t deny how he felt. Not to mention everything you’d said turned out to be true and he saw the changes you’d made to become a better person. You weren’t the same person as before and neither was he. But that didn’t make telling you any less scary. Bolin finally decided to do it one day after he spent the whole week watching you help refugees get rehabilitated. He knew he had to tell you or move on and he chose the former. Bolin could always find you around city hall these days so he headed there and soon enough he spotted you walking down a hallway. "Y/n" he called and you stopped looking around. You smiled when you saw him and walked over "Bolin! How are you? Is everything okay?". Bolin nodded "I’m good thanks and everything is great. I was just wondering if I could talk to you? What time do you finish up here?". You seemed surprised but quickly recovered "I actually finish in an hour, there’s a great coffee shop around your corner if you’d like to go there?". Bolin nodded "sounds great! I'll meet you at the main entrance in an hour".

It was raining when Bolin got to the coffee shop so he went inside and found a table. He sat facing the door, which turned out to be a bad thing as every time it opened his heart sped up and he panicked before realising it wasn’t you. Finally, after many false calls you arrived. Bolin froze as you stood there in the doorway and he felt his palms sweat and his cheeks flush at what he was about to do. He was excited but also terrified. You’d said you would always care for him as a friend and as more but what if that had changed in the year that had passed? What if he’d missed his chance and the two of you would never get your opportunity to be a couple? “Bolin?” you called having located him and Bolin jumped up “y/n hey! Thanks for coming”. You smiled sitting down “no problem, so...how can I help? If it’s about those building permits please tell President Zhu Li I’m getting the zoning board to work as fast as possible...”. “No it’s not work-related it’s about...us”. “Ow...” you said and your whole body language changed “okay, what do you want to discuss?”. 

Bolin took a deep breath “well first of all I wanted to tell you I’ve noticed all the good things you’ve done this past year and how you’ve been trying to reduce the damage Kuvira caused and I truly believe you’re a good person. I’ve forgiven you for what happened between us”. Your face lit up in surprise and you smiled shocked “really? Bolin that’s amazing! Thank you so much”. Bolin smiled “it’s nothing, it felt right so thanks for not giving up I guess”. “Totally worth it” you grinned and Bolin blushed ”also one more thing...I wondered if things have changed at all for you? Before you mentioned you would always care for me as more than a friend but were happy just being friends, is that still true”. You paused looking down “yes my feelings haven’t changed. I think I’ll always like you but I respect your feelings and promise never to try anything with you...is that what you were worried about?”. Bolin shook his head “no more the opposite, Y/n I still like you too and all this time I was unsure if I could trust you but like I just said I know I can now and so I wondered if you’d maybe like to go on a date with me?”. Your face split into an even more surprised expression and Bolin had never seen your eyes so wide before. You spluttered in shock “I’m...of course I would! Sorry i’m just lost for words because I thought I’d royally screwed this up so to hear you say this, I can’t believe how lucky I am”. Bolin blushed, in all his relationships he was usually the one providing all the security and compliments and it was nice to have someone else share that. “Well I feel pretty lucky too, none of my past partners have gone to the amount of effort you have to show me they care. You make me feel wanted and I like that”. You blushed but didn’t look away “I do want you Bolin, so not to sound eager but when are you free for that date because I’d love to take you out and make you feel even more special”. Bolin was so flushed he felt several degrees warmer and he smiled “how’s Friday night?”. “It’s a date” you grinned and Bolin smiled “great...” and he tentatively reached across the table to take your hand. Your drinks arrived seconds later and you smiled holding yours up “a toast, may our future be a lot less complicated and happier than our past”. Bolin nodded “to our future” and clinked your glass. You had a good feeling about this and couldn’t wait to see what your future had in store. 

You always used to fear the future but now, with Bolin back in your life you were ready for it.

Bolin is the bestest boy! 

I never really warmed to him and Opal as a couple because it just felt forced to me, like they were both single and nice people so they got smushed together. I wish they’d given him a more romantic fun partnership like Korra x Asami and Mako x Wu (yes they’re together in my mind). Even the way they got together felt quite convenient and not really that special or fun. All I’m saying is Bolin and Opal both deserve better!

After the war with Kuvira, Bolin debated what he wanted to do with his future and after working a few months as President Zhu Li's assistant he realised there was one job he'd really ever enjoyed...being a pro-bender! He loved the excitement, the physical challenges and the attention of the fans of course. So he decided it was time to get the team back together...the only problem? Korra was off in the spirit world with her new girlfriend Asami and Mako was with Wu in the Earth Kingdom helping him form a democracy. So Bolin's options weren't looking good and the new season was only weeks away... but Korra wasn't about to leave Bolin high and dry, she had the perfect person for the job. You.

You and Korra met when you became her Fire bending teacher and first real friend. You'd been brought to the North Pole to help Korra learn fire bending for two main reasons. 1. you were very skilled and had finished the academy many years early almost beating the record  2. you were the same age as Korra and very similar to her. Like Korra you were impulsive, confident and well impressive. Katara thought you'd be a great fit for the young Avatar and she was right. Korra liked you from the minute she saw you (apparently that happened for all water avatars and their fire bending teachers) and you became friends very quickly. Over the years you and Korra kept in touch as much as possible. You'd also helped her out a few times, convincing General Iroh to leave early to help secure Republic City from Amon and raising Korra's case about the Water Tribe civil war to the Firelord herself but apart from that the two of you had been far too busy to socialise. The last time Korra contacted you it was to tell you a spot had opened up on a pro-bending team for a talented fire bender. Never one to say no to a challenge and someone who didn't like to stay in one place for too long you quit your job and decided to move to Republic City. Being a pro-athlete would be fun. Apparently, Korra's recommendation and your past experience were so good the team captain, an earth bender named Bolin, had given you the place without even needing an audition. You were flattered but also suspected the captain was a little desperate for players considering the matches started in less than three week. He'd agreed to meet you in the arena to start training and so after dropping your stuff off at your new apartment you headed to the huge stadium. You followed the instructions in Bolin's letter and pushed the door open to find a red fire ferret alone in the centre of the room. It turned to look at you as the door opened and was very cute. When it scampered over to you, you smiled and bent down to pet it "well considering you're a fire ferret I'd say I'm in the right place but I don't suppose you're Bolin?". The fire ferret made a chittering noise and you laughed as it nudged your hand for more pats. "I'll just stay here with you I guess" you shrugged sitting on the floor and you stayed playing with the ferret for a while until you heard footsteps. The door was pushed open by a person, or you supposed there was a person behind the many boxes. "Pabu I don't suppose you can lend a paw?" a voice called as the figure manoeuvred its way into the room. The fire ferret, who you assumed was called Pabu, made an unimpressed noise and scampered away. You laughed standing up "I think Pabu said no but I can help" you called taking a few of the top boxes to reveal a face. The boy had a strong jaw, black hair that curled adorably in the front and stunning green eyes. "Ow! Is it 2 already? I'm so sorry I'm late, I'm Bolin". "Yeah so I figured" you smiled setting the boxes down and turning back around "I'm y/n". Bolin shook your hand beaming "it's great to meet you! I'm super excited to have you on the team". "Excited to be here" you replied "Korra gave you a glowing review and said pro-bending was one of the best experiences of her life so I can't wait to start". Bolin smiled "that's what I like to hear, let me give you a tour of the stadium.   You and Bolin quickly became acquainted and Halfway through the tour Bolin turned to you. "You are definitely Korra's friend" he commented and  you laughed "what makes you say that? Do I have her cocky strut?". Bolin chuckled "No but you do have her confidence. The way you carry yourself is exactly how she did when we first met. I'm beginning to think Korra got it from you". "Of course she did, I was her teacher" you cried and Bolin laughed "I think we're going to get along well y/n". His smile made you pause because it was so sweet and beautiful but you soon recovered. "You know what, I think we will too" you agreed and Bolin smiled even more. You had a good feeling about this. One of the first orders of business was training together as a team so you could get used to each other's fighting styles. This was made slightly more difficult due to the fact you were one person short but luckily Korra had handled that too. She'd apparently contacted someone from back home and you were excited to find out who was joining you. When Bolin told you the waterbender's name a grin appeared on your face. "So I take it you know him?" Bolin asked and you smiled "of course I know Toalu! He was at the compound with us, he was Korra's water bending master's assistant. He's an awesome water bender so don't worry, we've got this season in the bag". Bolin grinned caught up in your infectious determination and when Toalu arrived he too was swept up in the excitement. The two of you had a nice reunion and him and Bolin soon bonded. "To the fire ferrets!" Bolin announced raising his glass at the end of the night and you and Toalu smiled raising yours too. "The fire ferrets!" you both replied and you smiled, the good feelings just kept coming.   Your first match was now two weeks away so the three of you spent most of your time in the gym, working out plays together and just getting comfortable around one another. You were all great benders in your own right but still hadn't mastered being a team...yet! You were making progress every day and Bolin was a very good leader. You'd found yourself drawn to the earth bender from the very first day and your relationship had only been growing. Bolin was very easy to get along with and honestly the sweetest person you'd ever met. Of course, Korra had told you this about Bolin but words were no comparison to the real thing and one thing Korra had severely undersold was how hot Bolin was. The first time you saw his biceps your eyes brows nearly went as high as your hairline and when he showed you and Toalu his Nuktuk movefs you thought you were back in the Fire Nation with how warm you became. You couldn't deny you were attracted to Bolin and apparently, the feeling was mutual...there was just one problem. "So y/n..." Bolin said turning to you after training one day. "I was wondering if you'd maybe like to go out to dinner with me? Like on a date?" the blushing Earth Bender asked. You turned around slowly and sighed "Bolin I'd love to spend more time with you but I don't date people I work with" you admitted "I have a rule and I've never broken it. It just keeps everything tidier and more professional, so sorry but I can't". Bolin shook his head "no don't apologise that's completely fine! Probably a lot wiser". You smiled "thanks for understanding" and left leaving Bolin feeling deflated. He respected your decision but damn he wished there was a way around it. Since becoming a pro-bender again Bolin was receiving a lot of attention from the fans. He now had quite a lot of guys and girls competing for his attention and once the season had started and you'd won a few early games he let himself start to enjoy it...however one thing he noticed was having lots of people attracted to you wasn't as good as he remembered it. He didn’t get excited any more hearing people yell his name or having crowds of attractive people waiting around outside his training room...but Bolin figured he knew why. The person he wanted the attention from was you. However despite the constant tension between the two of you, you had your rule and Bolin respected your wishes enough to not try pushing you. So he'd just have to keep trying with new people and hope one of them took his mind off you. So Bolin became a celebrity in Republic City once again and didn't shy away from the romantic attention he received. After one match a group of his fans showed up to the changing room looking for him. They rushed inside congratulating him and you and Toalu were momentarily stunned by all the bold fans. Bolin took in your expression and rushed over. "Sorry I said they could hang out after the show, do you guys mind?" Bolin asked. He'd seen the surprised look on your face and wondered (hoping just a little) that you might be convinced to reconsider your rule but in response you just smiled. "Not at all! Toalu and I will get out of your hair so you can have more privacy" and with a sweet smile the two of you left. Bolin sighed as the door closed and he was the only left feeling deflated. He knew nothing was happening with the two of you because of your aforementioned rule, not to mention Toalu was in a loving relationship with his boyfriend but he still felt jealous you were giving Toalu so much attention when Bolin was craving it. Still there was nothing he could do so he just turned back to his newfound friends Your POV You and Toalu meanwhile were walking through the streets of Republic City, chatting about fight strategies while you made your way to the gym for some late-night training. After you'd mentioned Bolin for the third time Toalu smiled "can I ask you a question?". You nodded and he paused choosing his words "why are you and Bolin torturing one another?". You laughed "what?". "Well it's clear the two of you like one another, you're always checking each other out or flirting but you refuse to date him because of some rule you have? Are you sure you're not being too fire nation about it?". You laughed "that rule has kept my life uncomplicated and stress-free for years. It's just easier for everyone if we remain professional, for instance, would you really want to be in a team with the two of us if we dated and then broke up? Imagine how awkward that would be". Toalu nodded "yeah but that's imagining the two of you didn't work out, what if you're both very happy together and use all the energy gawking at one another to actually do more training?". You smirked "while I see your point it's just too big a risk. Bolin's great, he's interesting, kind, funny and well do I even need to mention attractive? But he's just a risk I can't take...no matter how much I want to. It's not the mature thing to do". Toalu smiled "I think you're scared". "What!" you cried "no I'm not! I'm being responsible". "No you're shying away from something uncertain just so you can be in control, news flash y/n control is an illusion. None of us are ever properly in control of our own futures so just swallow your pride and kiss the pretty boy. It's that simple and trust me I'm speaking from experience". "Whatever let's just go train" you shrugged and made it clear you didn't want the conversation to continue. However just because Toalu stopped didn't mean you stopped thinking about it. You ponded his words over and over again. Were you really just taking the safe option because you were scared? Maybe your desire to be perfect and never a liability had made you push your wants and needs to the side. Perhaps you weren't as healthy and well balanced as you thought... The Fire Ferrets were doing relatively well in the league and as you got further through the season more and more of Bolin's friends came to see him and you were shocked how many just kept appearing. Each week more and more appeared from the farthest reaches of the globe but the one that interested you the most was Opal Beifong. You'd of course heard of the Beifongs so when Bolin introduce you, you were quite impressed. You watched him and Opal together and could see they were very close friends but you were amazed to hear they used to date. You'd never seen two exs be so civil to one another and you studied them confused at the whole concept. When Opal noticed she asked you if everything was okay and you confessed. "Sorry I just can't believe you're Bolin ex! You're both so...kind to one another". Opal laughed "well yeah have you tried being mean to Bolin it's impossible?". You shrugged agreeing and Opal continued "plus our breakup was very amicable, Bolin was so respectful and kind I couldn't be mad at him. Sure at first I took some time to deal with my emotions but there was no bad blood between us so when I'd recovered I had no negative feelings towards him. Even my boyfriend loves him". "Really?" you asked in disbelief and Opal nodded laughing "yep, he even helped us move to Ba Sing Sei last year. Bolin's just a great guy". You nodded "I can't actually believe how nice a guy he is, like is he even human?". Opal chuckled "i thought the same thing but you'll soon realise that's just Bolin. The only thing bigger than his biceps is his heart". You nodded your head in agreement and Opal smiled "he talks a lot about you". "Ow really?" you asked casually but on the inside your heart was racing. "Yep, he told me you were the best fire bender he's ever seen". You laughed "and what did his brother, my predecessor think of that?". Opal smirked "I won't tell if you won't but Bolin is really fond of you and seeing you fight together so well...you'd think you've known each other all your lives". You smiled "yeah we got really lucky, we just gel so well". Opal nodded "so y/n are you currently seeing anyone?". You shook your head "nope...why do you ask?". "No reason" Opal smiled but you knew the reason and his name was Bolin. When you reached the quarter-finals in your first season that brought out the big guns aka the Avatar. When Bolin told you Korra and Asami would be coming to your next match you were thrilled! It'd be so great to see Korra again and meet the wonderful Asami Sato. They got into town the day before your match and you all spent the afternoon together before going away to train. You had a match to focus on and Korra understood so she arranged a party for you after the match where you could all properly catch up and celebrate your success. The following day you had your match and you narrowly missed out on the win. You were a little upset but then Bolin told you how great this was for a first season and how you'd come back next year and take the title. He instantly made you feel better and you smiled admiring his positive attitude. To say three months ago you didn’t even know one another and you'd only had a few weeks worth of training before starting, the quarterfinals was amazing! You'd bumped the Fire Ferrets up the league tables and had sponsors interested in the group. You were very proud of all the three of you had achieved and were grateful for Bolin helping you see it this way. You watched as he happily chatted to Toalu and admired the earth bender, something you caught yourself doing constantly. You'd just never met someone who was the total package like Bolin. It wasn't just his looks, his wonderful green eyes and toned body that drew you to him. It was also the fact he was the sweetest person you'd ever met, a perpetual optimist who would do anything for others. On paper that sounded like it could get annoying but Bolin was so genuine it was endearing. Given his upbringing it was even more impressive, he'd started from humble beginnings but never lost his hope or belief in humanity. He loved his friends and family fiercely and was comfortable in his masculinity which you found very attractive. You also loved how he made everyone feel at ease and treated everyone equally. He was just an amazing person and you'd never met someone like him before. "Now party at Korra's!" Bolin cheered suddenly knocking you out of your train of thought "you ready y/n?" he asked noticing you looked pretty out of it. You nodded "yeah let's go!" and shoved everything into your bag which you could barely zip up it was so full. Bolin smiled noticing "let me get that for you" and lifted it like it was nothing. You sighed inwardly, Bolin was making this very hard. The party was at air temple island and it was so beautiful. You admired the air benders immensely and had a very fun conversation with Master Tenzin about his culture. After you'd been talking for a while you realised you should probably make an effort to talk to everyone else and began walking around the room. You spotted Bolin straight away and of course he was in the middle of a group telling them all a very funny story. You smiled watching him from a nearby chair when you realised what you were doing and went outside. Your absence was noted and not five minutes later the Avatar found you. "So you okay?" Korra asked and you looked at her "yeah why?". "Well you do that thing when you're super stressed where you stare oddly into space looking constipated". You pushed her eyes going wide in shock and she laughed "what it's TRUE! So what's wrong?". You sighed "I...do you remember that rule I have? About not dating people I work with?". Korra nodded "yep, it was the reason you rejected my invitation to hang out when we first met because you thought I was hitting on you". "You basically asked me out!" you argued and Korra smirked "you wished! You just thought I was a cocky young avatar trying to shoot my shot with a hot fire bending teacher". You grinned "guilty but my point is, Bolin's really making me question my rule". A grin appeared on Korra's face "I knew you'd hit it off" she smiled and you gasped "what? You did this on purpose?". Korra laughed "calm down that's giving me way too much credit. I had no solid proof the two of you would end up liking one another but it made sense. All the reasons you broke up with your past partners weren't a problem for Bolin. He isn't unprogressive and problematic like Sonrik, he isn’t afraid to embrace his femininity unlike Tarrak, he's kind and sweet which Kilan wasn't. He's funny, selfless and impressive, not to mention completely you're type with the curly hair and huge muscles". You blushed but winced "well all of that is true but there's one problem. I work with him". Korra rolled her eyes "So? Y/n I get why you had that rule with me and in the military but you're not in the Fire Nation anymore! You don't have to be so strict and nobody is expecting soldier like discipline. You're allowed to date a teammate and trust me I would know, I dated all of mine!". You laughed and Korra smiled "plus and I'm going to try and say this sensitively but you just got knocked out of the cup". "Wow kick me while I'm down" you replied and Korra laughed knocking you with her soldier "what I mean is, until the next season Bolin isn't really your teammate and that's not for 3 months! That's a great amount of time to get that honeymoon period of the relationship out of the way and become a more stable couple by competition season. You wouldn't even be breaking that stupid rule of yours!". You could see the logic in what Korra was saying but you paused. "What is it?" Korra asked and you groaned "I'm scared" you whispered and Korra frowned "what?". "I'm scared okay!" you cried "I've never met someone as good as Bolin before! I usually date people I know won't be long term but Bolin...what if I mess it up?". Korra shook her head "impossible, to mess something up you have to be human and you're perfect". You laughed "I'm being serious!". "So am I!" Korra grinned "Y/n you're one of the most impressive people I've ever met. You can totally handle the dating scene and you know what, even if you do mess things up that's not the end of the world. Relationships are messy, that's why they're so great. There will be bumps in the road but it’s nothing you can't handle I promise". You nodded "okay but one final thing, what if Bolin doesn't like me". Korra snorted "I'm not even going to dignify that one with an answer now go back in there and get your Bolin". You blushed but feeling pumped up you walked back into the room. 

You spotted Bolin and were relieved to see the group was now smaller. He was just sat with Asami, Toalu and Toalu’s boyfriend so you made your way over and caught his eye. “Hey Bolin can we talk?”. Bolin jumped and he suddenly looked a lot more serious, but he then smiled and nodded “sure, would you like to go somewhere quieter?”. “Yes please” you nodded and Asami smiled “I’m sure Korra wouldn’t mind you using our room. It’s down that corridor third door on the right”. You led the way and when you reached the room began to feel a bit panicked, your confidence from Korra fading. When you hesitated Bolin frowned “y/n are you okay?”. You nodded “I’m fine I just don’t know how to say this...”. Worry filled Bolin’s face “ow no you want to leave the team!”. You frowned “what...no” but Bolin was already carried away on his train of thought. “I mean i get it, you’re a distinguished citizen of the Fire Nation. I bet this is nothing compared to your past roles in the military not to even mention the pay...but y/n I promise we’ll keep improving and take the championship. We all work really well together and I think part of that is because of you! You’re so strong and confident, you’ve saved me and Toalu so many times and I can’t imagine the team without you so please stay!”. Finally Bolin stopped talking and you shook your head “Bolin I don’t want to leave, that’s not what I had to tell you!”. “Ow thank Rava! Wait so what did you need to tell me?”. You blushed “well I erm...see the thing is...do you remember that rule I told you about?”. Bolin suddenly sat up straighter and turned slightly pink “the no dating rule?”. You nodded “well I was thinking of altering it”. Bolin smile “reallyyyy, I mean okay cool” he said leaning back as if this was totally casual “any reason why?” he asked. You smiled at just how bad Bolin was at playing it cool, finally you found a flaw of his. “Yeah well there’s this teammate I quite like” you admitted and Bolin’s eyes widened “really? That’s the best thing I’ve ever heard...I mean erm cool”. You smiled “yeah I hope Toalu thinks so too, it is him after all”. Bolin’s jaw dropped and you burst into laughter “you should’ve seen your face! I’m sorry but I couldn’t resist!”. Bolin shook his head “you really had me going there y/n!” and he let out a breath of relief. Then Bolin took a tentative step closer, a small smile on his face “is it me?”. “Yes” you nodded feeling suddenly less jokey “the rule has worked for me for years but you have to change and adapt them to suit you otherwise they begin to rule you instead of the other way around and we’re not in the Fire Nation anymore so I don’t need to be as strict....” you said very fast due to your nerves and Bolin blinked “not gonna lie, I didn’t get all of that but I agree we’re not in the Fire Nation so you should definitely date me”. You chuckled “I agree” and Bolin smiled “I can’t wait. I just think you’re the coolest, most interesting girl I’ve ever met. I felt at ease around you so quickly and I feel like I’ve known you for years not just a couple of months. I also understand a little about the Fire Nation so I know this, you changing your rules for me, is pretty huge. So I wanted to thank you, I promise I’m an excellent boyfriend and I will try with all my power to never let you get hurt”. You smiled “Ow I know, I got details from Korra and Opal about dating you and they both gave you glowing references”. Bolin paused “wait you asked them for references?”. “No i’m joking, but they did both tell me how great a guy you are, after that it was pretty clear I’d be lucky to date a guy like you”. “I’m the lucky one trust me!” Bolin cried and he smiled looking at you intently “y/n?”. “Yes Bolin?” you replied “can I kiss you?” Bolin asked and you smiled “yes”. Bolin closed his eyes and lent in, you did the same and met in the middle. You shouldn’t have been surprised given his past experience but Bolin was an excellent kisser. The kiss was very sweet and gentle but also very hot and made you certain you’d made the right decision. When you pulled away Bolin was blushing adorably and you laughed taking his arm “that was a pretty great kiss”. “Yeah it was...” he smiled in a daze and he stared off at the wall. You laughed and squeezed his hand “would you like to lie down for a second or can we rejoin the party?”. Bolin blinked “don’t worry i’m back! Let’s rejoin”.  

When Korra saw you she screamed. Any actual scream came out of her mouth and so naturally everyone else looked over. They all then crowded around to give their congratulations and Korra was very smug. “I knew this would happen” she told Asami and Asami nodded “sure” and winked at you making you laugh. “You know i’m really happy for you both but it has just occurred to me i’m going to be a third wheel all the time now” Toalu commented. “Aww don’t say that, you were always a third wheel now it’s just official” you replied and Bolin burst out laughing. “No but seriously we won’t be that bad. We’re the Fire Ferrets and that’s not going to change anything”. “Yeah, at training we will be totally professional!” Bolin nodded seriously “unless y/n does something really cool or cute then I’ll probably melt but other than that serious leader!”. You smiled fondly at Bolin and the rest of the evening was just as wonderful. Your new life in Republic City was off to a brilliant start, you loved the city and people, really enjoyed your job and had an amazing boyfriend....next it was just that championship title but something told you that would be no problem, not for the Fire Ferrets.

More Than Friends (Bolin x Fem!Reader)

You and Bolin had been friends for a few years. The two of you were pretty much inseparable, and you trusted each other with your own lives. He made you feel safe and calm, and you made him feel extremely happy just by standing next to him. You two had feelings for each other, everyone besides the both of you was aware of that.

He thought that a girl like you could never pay attention to him. He'd liked you from the very first moment you met. He felt completely mesmerized by you, but he thought that you didn't feel the same. So he just kept his feelings hidden as well as he could because he didn't want to put you in an awkward situation.

You, on the other hand, realized you had feelings for him a lot later on, but when you did, you got extremely scared. You were terrified of ruining your friendship, mainly because it wouldn't just ruin your relationship with him, but also the one you had with everyone in the group. So you just stayed silent as your feelings grew stronger with every passing day.

But it was getting harder and harder for the both of you. Everytime you were together, you couldn't help but think about what it would feel like to kiss him, and he would only think about having you in his arms.

It wasn't long until everyone else started getting frustrated just by watching how oblivious the two of you were, so they tried many times to get you together, but somehow, all their plans failed; both of you were too scared of ruining everything with your feelings and in your minds, there was no way that your feelings could be reciprocated. You talked to all of them, telling them to stop with what they were doing since it was useless. You knew your friends were just trying to help, but the more you saw Bolin, the more your heart hurt.

Bolin on the other hand had convinced himself that you'd never want to date him, so he started to drift away a little. But every night, he wished you were right by his side, he wished he could talk to you about his day and hear everything about yours. He wanted to tell you that he loved you, but he couldn't and it was slowly killing him.

The others still wanted to do something. It was painful to see you and Bolin acting like that, but they knew they had to be discreet. But one day when they were all visiting Tenzin, Ikki and Jinora heard them talking, and they immediately wanted to participate.

"I don't know, girls..." said Korra, doubting about it being a good idea or not.

"Come on! (Y/N) loves us! She won't suspect a thing and she could never get mad at us!" Exclaimed Ikki. The little girl was right, you loved spending time with Tenzin's kids, but specifically Jinora and Ikki; they were like the little sisters you always wished you had.

They all looked at each other, still not thinking that it was a good idea, but suddenly Ikki started talking again. "I have the perfect idea! I know it will work, you just have to trust us!" And so the girl told them about her plan, and surprisingly speaking, it was a good one.

Ikki remembered that you loved picnics, so she thought it would be perfect to plan one. She heard Korra saying that you and Bolin had been drifting apart a little, so she thought that it would be a great occasion to get the two of you to confess your feelings.

When you got there, you saw Bolin and wondered what he was doing there, but at the same time you were extremely happy to see him.

"Hey…" You said. He turned around and smiled at you. He wanted to hug you, but he didn't and simply waved instead. "I'm sorry to ask but, what are you doing here?"

"Oh, Ikki said she wanted to tell me something," he replied. You lifted one of your eyebrows and started getting a bit suspicious.

"She told me the same thing," you mumbled. When you saw the picnic right behind the boy, your eyes lit up. "Did you do this?"

"I, um, no, it was already here," he answered as you sat down on top of the blanket.

Then, out of nowhere, the little girl showed up.

"Oh, hi, Ikki! What did you want to say to me?" You asked, extremely happy to see her, but still wanting some answers.

"The two of you are here because you need to talk about some things," she said. "So enjoy the picnic, and finally confess your undying love for each other. Have a good time!"

She quickly walked away, leaving the two of you alone. You knew that if she was into this, then Jinora would be too, and instantly thought that the rest of your friends knew about this too.

"I don't know why she said that," Bolin said. "Kid's are so funny sometimes."

"Yeah, how long will it take for them to realize that we don't have feelings for each other?" You mumbled. You were starving, and also a bit nervous, so you decided to start eating lunch.

When Bolin heard you saying that, his heart broke a little, and he even felt the urge to cry, but he covered everything up with a nervous laugh.

You two stayed silent for quite a while. You kept eating while trying to ignore the boy in front of you, and he just couldn't help but think about how beautiful you were. "I can't do this anymore," he said out of nowhere. You lifted your head to look at him and could tell how nervous he was. "I do have feelings for you, (Y/N). I'm pretty sure I have ever since I met you, and I tried to hide it, and to avoid you but I just can't. I know I'm completely ruining our friendship because there's no way you could like me back but I just, I can't keep hiding how I feel. I love you."

You stayed still, processing his words. You thought for a moment that you were dreaming, that it was just an illusion, but when a soft breeze came your way, you realized that it was real.

"I can go if you want to, I don't want to make you uncomfortable or anything," he mumbled while getting up. He started walking away until you snapped out of your thoughts and told him to stop. He turned around and you wrapped your arms around his neck, softly connecting your lips against his.

"I-I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-." You were interrupted by his lips on top of yours once again, except that this time it was a longer kiss, sweet and needy at the same time. "I love you, too, Bolin. I have for a while, but I was afraid of ruining everything," you said once you two pulled away.

"I think I'm the happiest man on the world right now," he whispered.

You smiled at his words and took a deep breath. "I think that our friends can finally stop making plans to get us together."
