Funny enough, this game has actually been helping me regain my love for Pluto and Nova again
(I am also surprised at how in character my main three ships are bc Nova WOULD pull this typa shit since she's so headstrong)

I have no idea if I've dropped this outside my brain or if it's another instance of me thinking so much about lore that I just think I've already shared it BUT
Pluto and Nova's story setting is basically retconned and no longer takes place in the distant future. It's still futuristic but it takes place on a man-made world. This is mainly so, BY SOME CHANCE, they could end up meeting my other OCs if I ever got around to doing a massive crossover thingy.
Basically, some decades ago during the first couple of UFO sightings and crashes, Earth realized there was indeed life in space. And in secret, humans worked with whatever aliens winded up on Earth to create a man-made planet that would serve as the dream utopia for human and aliens...as well as a lure to urge more outer space dwellers to land there and NOT Earth because it was getting harder and harder to lie to the public about their existence.
It was meant to follow the iconic vision of space travel you think of, with all the shine and perfection. The world we live on but better.
However, things rarely go to plan.
Due to the planet being man-made, it also became a dumping ground of sorts. Laws were difficult to reinforce like on Earth due to how complex the society had become with the influx of aliens and their own rules. Earth had begun to go through its own tensions, leading to attention drifting away from the planet.
Companies started to drop certain morals, shoving advertisements wherever they please leading to cities with skies filled with billboards and neon signs. Building regulations were just thrown out the window, leading to towers and clusters of buildings. There's a point there are even cities on top of cities.
The biggest development was technology and the heavy lean towards implementing it into living biology. What once was experimental became a widespread practice. Body modifications with tech ran rampant with some mods being completely harmless and just for aesthetic. Others, like merging the body with military grade weaponry became highly illegal. But with the Earth and alien governments being more focused on their home planets than the one they collaborated on together.
This led to the planet having to scrape together some kind of law enforcement to keep everyone in check.
Which is a lore dump for a different post.
BUT over the years things have settled down somewhat. Of course, this could simply be due to the lawbreakers becoming better at working in secret away from the public eye. Or the fact some are working alongside and even for law enforcement, leading to the lines of good and bad becoming blurred.
However, many residents are simply just residents trying to make it by. Some migrated to the planet during the dawn of its creation and have been there ever since, leading to generations that only know of Earth and their ancestor's planets through books and tv. Others recently landed on the planet with hopes of exploring a future.
While it wasn't a total lawless wasteland, it was far from the utopia dreamed of. However, it became the melting pot of the universe and still represents the unity of humans and aliens...
A unity that Earth continues to lie to it's own residents about due to them keeping the planet hidden from the public eye. Unless you got the right tech and know the exact coordinates, this all is just a conspiracy theory you may find on a long buried post, whose comments have been disabled, on a forum from a deleted user.
I am gonna make an effort to draw more Nova and Pluto stuff this year since they've been missing in action for far too long and their designs are finally at a spot I'm happy with.
I figured the best way to go about this is redraw some of their greatest hits with their new fleshed out designs and personalities.
This comic may just look like a rehash of Sweetheart and Bitterbat's but the original of this one actually came first!
Original under cut because my 2021 art stings me
LONG TIME, NO PLUTO
I recently gave Nova a design update so I did the same with the local nonbinary cyborg (they/them)
They look way more chill but please trust me when I say they are still a giant troublemaker
Finally figured out Nova's hairstyle. It's a whole lot easier and fun for me to draw now.
Heads up for any Bondwidth related questions that my answers will be shorter than they used to be just because a bad past experience with Pluto and Nova has sorta sucked the energy out of me wanting to share stuff about them publicly
I feel confident enough to say, at least right now, that I'm not touching Bondwidth's oneshot until I finish Glitter and Guilt's.
And that's not even from a "I'll wait before I start writing" point, that's a "I won't start drawing it" point because I actually DO have the thing scripted out and I've just been holding onto it and tinkering with it on the down low whenever I do get some Bondwidth juice.
THE ROCKY HAS BEEN PLOTTING IN SECRET AND SHALL CONTINUE DOING SO UNTIL THE TIME COMES FOR THE CATGIRL TO FINALLY TAKE THE STAGE
Does Pluto ever get flustered?
Sometimes.
They often get "nosebleeds" when they do
