Bonehouse ‘Beinhaus’ | Hallstatt, Austria | 1700-1960

The ossuary served as overflow storage in the local cemetery and holds the remains of over 2000 people, decorated by loved ones with their names and dates of death with messages of courage and symbols of love. The bones were bleached in the sun and painted after they were dug up.

10/10 was our closing date and it’s also my husbands birthday. So HBD rabbit man. Today marks one year at the bone house. We made the decision to buy a big black house, covered in bones, next to a town called Slaughterville (not a joke.) and things have gone... predictably.

Despite it all, and if you’ve followed us this year you know we’ve had our fair share of fuckery, I don’t regret it. This place has given me a lot of peace and goats and that’s all that really matters.
