16. — daybreak

Isethari squinted from where she lay on her bedroll, the sun starting to peek over the horizon. Daybreak. Ugh. She groaned, throwing an arm over her eyes and squeezing them shut even tighter. She hated mornings, hated daylight. For as long as she could remember she'd always had more of an affinity to evenings and to night. This whole sleeping through the night and then moving during the day was atrocious for her schedule. Or what she'd hoped it could have been joining the wardens. The one silver lining, perhaps. Yet here she was, rising with the sun and hating every second of it.

She sighed, lifting her arm just enough to peer to her side and see if Rylee was still sleeping. The mess of red hair splayed every which way, along with the soft rhythmic breathing, indicated she was. Another sigh. Rolling onto her stomach, Isethari now draped her arm over Rylee's midsection and buried her face against the other elf's shoulder blade. This stirred Rylee just a little, just enough to break her deep breathing. She didn't move much though, muttering indiscernible words under her breath.

"Ir abelas," Isethari whispered.

"Huh?"

"Sorry."

Rylee waved vaguely and halfheartedly, taking Isethari's arm and pulling her closer against her.

"I don't want to get up either," she murmured into her other arm. "Think Princess will let us sleep in today?"

With another sigh, Isethari lifted her head a bit and kissed the back of Rylee's shoulder. "I doubt it."

"Bitch," she complained. "Not like there's an archdemon anymore."

"We need to go to Amaranthine." Isethari trailed more feather light kisses along Rylee's back, now reaching her neck.

"I don't fuckin' care. We deserve a damned rest."

"And you've had one." Eleri's voiced wafted over the quiet of the camp. Both elves groaned. "Now get up already, we need to get moving."

"I'm gonna kill her," Rylee muttered.

"No you won't, vhenan." This time when Isethari went to kiss her, Rylee turned in time to catch her lips instead.

"I might," she insisted when they parted.

"No, you won't. Maybe when we get to the keep we can have more time."

"Fine."

a Q for anyone who has input: how is the textsize on my blog for you in your browsers and on your screens? sidebar, posts..? I usually view my own blog at 110 or 125% zoom (google chrome). it occurs to me then that it might be too small for ppl or some ppl?

You just have to stick with it a bit, it IS scary like I said! take a moment to get acquainted with the personal mods system and the skill tree, follow the story to unlock Launch and Levitate, and just trust me. You will realize very suddenly halfway through that you’ve long swapped out the fear for a relentless chase of couches to hurl at enemies.

It’s challenging, but it’s worth it. I feel a bit responsible having made you buy it, but I’m confident this game will make its own argument!!! just gotta push through those starting hours!!

Anika carries a staff, like any other mage, but it could proooobably be barely considered to be a staff. There’s nothing special or fancy to it, it’s something she carved out of a downed tree branch she found after running from the Circle (it’s something more akin to Gandalf the Grey’s staff we see in LotR than the fancy shit we get in DAI - or like that weird cat staff without the cats lmao). It’s short, more of a walking stick than staff, and she hardly uses it when she’s practicing her magic. And, honestly, she’s more likely to just whack someone over the head with it rather than try to do anything fancy or try any spell slinging with it. She also more often uses it as a walking stick and never actually carries it on her back unless she absolutely needs to (which is really only if she needs both hands free for something).

Isethari is extremely ticklish. Since leaving her clan, she’s tried very hard to hide this fact, but it slipped out one time when Rylee was helping her out of her armor when she’d been injured in a fight. Rylee accidentally applied juuust the right amount of pressure along Ise’s sides and she ended up dissolving into tears of laughter rather than pain since Rylee, naturally, couldn’t just let that go. Ise made her swear not to tell anyone, but the fact of the matter was anyone nearby (which was, well, everyone since they were back at camp) could hear the sudden fits of laughter over the previous cries and groans of pain. Rylee, to her credit, won’t tell anyone where Ise’s ticklish spots are, but they aren’t exactly unusual locations on her body.

Eleri lost her virginity around 15-16 to Gilmore and they were off and on lovers (while always remaining friends) for a number of years after. Actually, until his death defending the castle when Howe’s men attacked. El won’t admit it, but she did always have a thing for Nate Howe and on a number of occasions with Gilmore she imagined she was with Nate. Buuut she never told him, though he had his suspicions. Also it wasn’t until she met Iona that she realized “oh, I’m very much not straight”. But, as of the end of the 5th Blight, she has never been with a woman before.

Of course. Vaimah told Dorian to hear his father’s side, but left it to Dorian to decide whether to forgive him, it’s not Vaimah’s place to tell Dorian to forgive his father for being an absolute dickhead to him.
