“So, you think that you’re being haunted by Shigaraki’s ghost?” All Might clarified.
“I’m not actually sure, but the strange occurrences make it seem like I am,” Izuku specified.
All Might sighed. “I don’t think that’s what’s going on here. I think you might be experiencing guilt.”
“I am. I know I am. But I know that there’s something else going on. That lady even knew. She was a complete stranger, and she knew.”
“So you want to meet with her to confirm your beliefs?”
Izuku paused, contemplating what he really wanted. “I want to be wrong, but...”
“Bumping into a Korean woman on the street who said there was something following you could just be a warning that there’s a villain after you. We haven’t fully ruled out that possibility yet.”
“There’s been no clear evidence of it actually being a villain,” Izuku defended.
“I don’t know if this is a good idea. I understand what you’re going through—”
“No!” Izuku snapped. He quickly realized that his outburst was inappropriate. “Sorry.”
“It’s fine.”
“It’s just that you don’t understand. You’ve never killed anyone before. I’m sixteen. I killed the man I was supposed to save. I’m sixteen and I killed someone. And everyone thinks I’m a hero.”
“You are still a hero.” All Might placed his large hand on Izuku’s shoulder. “You saved this whole country, and you still saved his soul.”
“No, I don’t think I did.”
“And that’s why you think you’re being haunted?”
“It’s the only thing that actually makes sense.”
All Might hummed in thought. “I don’t think this is a good idea, but if you want to hear this woman out, then I’ll support you.”
The beautiful woman with long, sleek black hair sat on the couch opposite Izuku. She didn’t bother drinking the tea that All Might made. Next to her was the handsome man from before. His hair was pulled back into a bun behind his head. He wore all black, much like the woman next to him, but his sleeves were rolled up exposing the way his arms were covered in calligraphy tattoos. Unlike the woman, he sipped the tea calmly.
“My name is Hwa Rim,” the woman stated clearly in fluent Japanese. “This is my disciple Bong-gil. We have to return to Seoul next week, so let’s skip any small talk.”
“R-right,” Izuku stuttered. “I believe I’m being haunted by a villain.”
“Yes, you explained that on the phone. To be able to exorcize the spirit, we need some more information. Do you know the spirit’s name?”
“Shigaraki Tomura.”
“Or Shimura Tenko,” All Might added thoughtfully. “We don’t know which name he truly aligns with, especially now that he’s…”
“Well which is it?” Hwa Rim asked. “We need a specific name, so if you could figure it out, that would be imperative. Also, do you know the location of the body’s remains?”
Izuku and All Might shared a look.
“Well?” Hwa Rim said.
“His body was completely destroyed in the Final Decisive Battle. There was nothing left of him,” Izuku said.
“You’re joking,” she deadpanned. Turning to her disciple, she spoke quickly to him in a hushed tone. The need for whispering was redundant as neither Izuku nor All Might even spoke Korean. After a few back and forths, she turns back to the pair. “There’s a few things we can try first, here.”
She pulled a piece of yellow paper out of her bag, handing it to Izuku. He unfolded the paper to see it was littered with calligraphy in thick red paint.
“What is it?” he asked.
“It’s called a bujeok. It’s a kind of talisman. Put it under your bed and it will protect you from the spirit while you’re sleeping,” Hwa Rim explained.
“And how does it do that?” All Might questioned.
It was evident that Hwa Rim sensed his skepticism, so she explained, “The yellow paper repels evil spirits, and the red ink represents blood and fire, which symbolize human emotions and life.”
“So if this really is the spirit of Shigaraki, this piece of paper will protect Midoriya from him?”
She smiled. “Of course. Afterall, it was created for that specific purpose.” She looked at Izuku then, speaking directly to him. “We can do a ritual to try and contact the spirit to figure out his true name, but for the meantime, use this. We will contact you again when we are ready. Also, we usually ask for payment up front, so please prepare it before the next meeting.”
She stood to leave, bowing politely to All Might and Izuku. Her disciple quickly finished his tea, then he bowed as well, before the two left. Once they were gone, All Might spoke again.
“Are you really sure about this? It’s a lot of money, and I don’t mind giving you the money, but what if it turns out none of this is real?” he said.
“It’s still worth it. If it really is Shigaraki’s spirit, this is the only way I can still save him. At least I can help him move on in the afterlife,” Izuku said. “Thanks for lending me the money, too.”
“I just hope you know what you’re doing, young Midoriya.”
