Had a beautiful Sunday afternoon at the Bonine House in Vandalia, Michigan. This Quaker-owned farm was used as part of the Underground Railroad to house those seeking freedom from slavery in the 1800s. It's an amazing story and if you get the opportunity, stop by and check it out. They are in the process of restoring it and are doing an incredible job. When I first saw this house, it was a mess — overgrown and crumbling. They have completely transformed it. There is still much to do, but the place looks stunning. I especially love the stencil work on the ceiling they recently discovered under the drywall mud in the main parlor.
