I read the @bonus-links comic earlier this week for the first time and fell in love with this older windwaker Link design. He is so fun, and cheerful and cheeky, and very unapologetically himself the pirate.
(I also love how the artist draws him with a mouth in the shape of a heart when he is grinning thats such a cute detail i feel happy just looking at him)
I just had this strong image of him in the pose from the WW2 “we can do it” poster with the lady in overalls and a bandana pulling her sleeves up, and wanted to sketch it, and use it to practice line weight
Another random question that you can ignore if it doesn’t spark joy: what does ozcar’s outfit look like in ItHotMk? you describe him as wearing a vest and that’s frankly adorable
Reduce! Reuse! Recycle!
I like to envision the probable scarcity of the Vacuo siege narrative conflict being reflected in the character design of our heroes. So they’ve had to tailor some of their existing gear from the Atlas arc to the hot desert climate of Vacuo.
For Oscar that means cutting the sleeves off his big green coat and turning it into a stylish, threadbare vest!
Here’s a rough outline in white for how I picture the retrofitted vest in my head. I imagine the edges, especially around the arms, being frayed and the colors of the fabric/leather sun-worn. Fold down that fuckass popped collar for the love of god
@remnant-roses’s interpretation actually gets miraculously close to how I imagine Oscar’s gear in Mountain King. With the added, truly inspired, detail from remnant-roses, of Oscar embroidering the emblems of the fallen into the red section of his coat-turned-threadbare-vest! For Mountain King, keeping the coat tails is essential for the tail feather silhouette of it all, but I am mighty compelled by the cropped, waist-high vest remnant-roses designed here.
I am also compelled by Oscar with an undercut.
In Mountain King, however, Oscar has grown out his hair to shoulder length and he has thematically relevant braids in his hair (yes I’m being serious iykyk). He’s got a half up, half down hairdo with braids on the side of his head that join at the back of his head. Looks something like this:
But shorter, curlier, messier hair. @bonus-links’s design of the character Slate is also near spot on to how I imagine Oscar’s hair (but with Oscar’s bangs and cowlick):

Miscellaneous details:
Oscar has a leather travel pack and water skin slung around his waist
Orange goggles hang around his neck
A multicolored bandanna is tied around his left bicep
He’s still rocking those bronze toed boots (god love em)
At some point he had to change out his fancyshmancy white button up shirt for a more ergonomic, lighter tank top.
Oscar starts off with his classic, neat wrap of bandages around his neck of course!
But he also has bandages wrapped around his torso and the bandages creep past his sleeveless vest and partially cover his shoulders. His clavicle and chest are also covered in bandages 👀
