Book Five: Fandom Update

Hey everyone, considering many of you been asking about our progress on Book Five: Fandom, we thought we'd give you a quick rundown on where things currently stand.  

Right now we are processing 1,231 inbox messages from both Tumblr and Yahoo.  We estimate somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3's of that number are individual submissions.  Now considering each submission can contain up to four pieces of content (a letter and three photos for instance), we predict that the book will contain over a thousand distinct items.

Our team is made up of seven individuals, six of whom are responsible for sorting, extracting, and proofreading your submissions, and the seventh man who is responsible for formatting and designing the book itself.  

The process is quite slow (you'd be surprised how many people submitted six page letters), but progress is nevertheless being made. Our goal is to get this book out in 2014, and as things stand now, we should be able to do so.

My letter to Bryke!! Another submission.

Thank you for making my childhood the best it can possible be. I have been worshiping your characters for over 12 years and I am only 15. I was the one who sent to Maroon 5 Animals fanvideo. I sent a message connected to that and I wanted to expand on it. Growing up I wasn’t apart of the most wealthy family. My parents struggled and I watched them and I felt helpless. I tried to grow up as soon as possible. Then one summer my cousin from Flordia visited me and showed me a cartoon he was watching called, Avatar the Last Airbender. I thought he was a baby for watching it but I decided to watch it. That was the first time I ever fell in love with a tv show. I toke the lesson from uncle Iroh and Aang wise air nomads lessons to heart. I realized that I am still a kid. That same summer I learned that a new Avatar series was starting called, The Legend Of Korra and I was so ready. I meet Korra, Asami and Lin and felt so powerful as a girl. Then I fell into deep depression and anxiety when my parents divorced I felt alone. So one day i decided to rewatch all of ATLA and LOK. I got out of my funk and began to practice mediating and studying the Budhism and Hindism to discover my inner self. Without The Avatar series I probably wouldn’t be here today. I wouldn’t have realized that I love making art even if I’m not the best at it and that I love making fan videos. Thank you so much and I am so glad I am apart of such an awesome fandom and family. I hope others (and nick) doesn’t take your creativity for granted. Please be sure to make more comics and fill us in on any future Avatar news. Thanks Bryke for everything. I'm looking at some of the Book 5: Fandom artwork and it makes me so mad because everyone is so good at art and I'm not. I don't know what to submit though. Help me please!!!!

Book 5: Fandom FAQ

Q: How many things can I submit? A: Please limit submissions to no more than three (3) works. This is to preserve our resources, as everything needs to be printed and then put together within a limited time span. These three works can be a mix of any type of media, such as letters, art, etc. If you have more than three items that you would like to submit, reorganizing your visual works into a collage to meet this limitation is not only permissible but recommended.

Q: How does re-submission work? A: We are asking for re-submissions of any artwork or pictures of any kind previously submitted on tumblr in order to ask for higher resolution for printing purposes. If you submitted any art or pictures previously, please re-submit them via the same tumblr url or email that you used before, mention that you are re-submitting somewhere in the body of the submission, and re-submit them as a link to a higher resolution file.

Q: How big should my art/graphic be? A: Because we want art and pictures to be printed at 300 dpi (dots per inch), submitted works should be at the highest resolution as possible. Lower resolution works will be accepted but may be printed smaller in order to retain the quality of the work.

Q: Can I submit fanfiction? A: Unfortunately Bryke cannot read fanfiction due to legal reasons. However, please feel free to submit a letter about how their creation(s) inspire you to write or some other type of work entirely.

Q: Did you get my submission? A: Most likely we did. Generally we reply saying that we have received your submisison, but due to a combination of the sheer number of submissions and technical issues we have not been doing so. If you feel that your submission may not have gotten through, please do feel free to send it again.
