I finally filled the last square of @batmanisagatewaydrug's 2025 book bingo! The last space I filled:

read a zine and make a zine

I read Zines in the Classroom by Cosima Storz and can't wait to use it as an inspiration when I start teaching next year.

For my own zine, I decided to make it about my reading year: the reading challenges I completed, my favourite books and covers, the new favourite author I discovered this year and my plans for 2026. It was very fun!

I can't wait to start the @2026-book-bingo next year, although I'll probably not go in planning to fill the whole board this time.

Under the cut I'll post the bingo sheet with the book covers that inspired my granny squares and a few of my favourites from this year.

favourite new author: Eve L. Ewing! She made it onto the bingo sheet twice, once with her poetry collection 1919 and once with her new non-fiction release Original Sins. I loved both and definitely want to check out her other writing in the future.

favourite fantasy book: Redemptor by Jordan Ifueko

favourite science fiction book: Ancillary Sword by Ann Leckie

favourite romance book: The Bride Test by Helen Hoang

favourite literary fiction: Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison

The last three did not make it onto the bingo sheet because the corresponding spaces had already been filled by the time I read them.

2025 book blanket

she's finished! an absolute labour of love, with 12 months of reading wrapped up in 1 blanket.

i wish i could re-do the memento mori squares because i dislike them all

it's not as wonky as it looks in the photo but i don't have anywhere tall enough to hang it properly

(the previous two aren't stats but that's ok)

it was really fun, i enjoyed making it, I doubt i'll ever do it again.

Just finished February and March’s book blanket squares! I’m going to try and get a better picture tomorrow of all the blocks I’ve made so far for this year.

Right now I’m at 17 out of 30 books this year! I’ll also add a list of all the books I’ve read in order 📚

As well as reading, I like to crochet, and have decided that an ongoing project will be granny squares inspired by the books I've read in 2025 (and maybe continuing to 2026 if the blanket isn't big enough).

I am making a book blanket. For every book I read I make a crochet granny square that is close to the colors of the book. Book 25-28 is The Raven Cycle

February update for @batmanisagatewaydrug's 2025 Book Bingo!

This month I read books for the following squares:

fantasy: Das kalte Reich des Silbers, Naomi Novik (engl. Spinning Silver)

romance novel: The Missing Page, Cat Sebastian

graphic novel: Gender Queer, Maia Kobabe

historical fiction: The Golden One, Elizabeth Peters

20th century speculative fiction: Parable of the Sower, Octavia Butler

The standout this month was definitley Parable of the Sower. I can't wait to give more of Butler's books a try.

Spinning Silver was also very nice and wintery, I'd really recommend it to anyone looking for a read inspired by fairytales!
