The optimistic inspirations of aspiring author Meredith Anderson Coffman. This is a book appreciation blog! I post about books, nature, and pretty much anything I find aesthetic. The adorable Book Ferrets on my blog are Wasabi-No-Ginger, (big boy, dark nose), my sweet Diggle Bear (white paws), and Quigley (tiny sable mask), the Original Book Ferret. All three have gone to the rainbow bridge. I still post photos with the Book Ferret Doodle, Archer Basilton.

He's just a baby!

Please welcome Zym to the Book Ferret Family!

Born in April 15, Zym is a full quarter European polecat! He’s already shaping up to be a BIG boy between that and how much he loves to eat anything we put in front of him. He climbs everything he can (including us), and plays so much like Wasabi. He loves toys that make noise like bells, tiny maracas, and crinkle toys.

For months, Azymondias has been my top pick for a ferret name. From the Netflix show The Dragon Prince, Zym is the name of the Dragon Prince! Our son is also named after a character from the same show, so it’s a lovely connection between the two of them.

An incredibly special thing about Zym is his lineage. We flew to Ohio to pick these boys up from the same breeder we got Wasabi from back in 2018, and in looking at Zym’s parents, grandparents, and great grandparents, I noticed that Wasabi is actually Zym’s Great Great Uncle. How special to have such a unique tie between our ferrets who were never able to meet. 🩵

I hope you’ll all love Zym as much as we already do!

Please welcome Go Go to the Book Ferret Family!

Born on April 14th, Go Go is the (slightly) older of our two boys! He’s determined and feisty and sleeps so very hard after playtime. He also makes more noise than any other ferret we’ve had before! We love his little Go Go Goose sounds 🪿

My husband picked out Go Go’s name. He’s always loved the thought of Go Go for a ferret, and it’s from Big Hero 6, which is also what Wasabi’s name was from, so it feels like a bridge from our ferrets who could never meet one another. He’s also very fast, so it already feels fitting! 💛

I hope you’ll all love Go Go (and his pointed polecat ears!) just as much as we already do!

Can you guess the names we chose for the new Book Ferret Babies?

We've always chosen names for our ferrets that would be unique and meant something to us. Our first ferret, we named after the title character of Quigley Down Under, our second, after John Diggle in Green Arrow, and our third, as many of you know, from Big Hero 6, Wasabi-no-ginger. Throughout the months of waiting for a litter from our breeder and mourning Wasabi, we started a list of potential names. Thinking of these hypothetical babies' names helped so much as we grieved and hoped for the future.

But then the fun part came--we got to meet the little tiny monsters and spent three days driving them home (even with a pilot for a husband, you can't fly with ferrets!) and see which names fit with each boy. And now, we want you all to play a game with us: guess the boys names! I'll give you a few hints to help you out. *We tried paired names, but none of them fit. So think about their names separately! *One of the boys is named from the same world as one of our previous ferrets. *One of the boys is named after the title character from a TV show. *One of the boys is named after a (female) character from a comic book series. *Both boys have long names that we've shortened into nicknames for them. (Both boys have FIVE syllables to their full names!) That's all you get to help you out!

The Book Ferret Doodle, Archer Basilton

Please welcome the new Baby Book Ferret Boys!

After months without a ferret in our house, we've been painfully aware of the lack of pitter-pattering feet on the floors, mischievous noses getting into our things, and a serious lack of sweet noses kisses. But finally, finally, we have ferrets again! It's taken months of waiting, a horrible ferret scammer emotionally manipulating me by pretending to be our breeder for months, and multiple false pregnancies from the real breeder, but our newest family members are finally home and so, so very loved. Born from two different litters on the 14th and 15th of April, these little chaos goblins are now almost ten weeks old and growing like weeds, which makes sense considering how much they're eating! We flew to Ohio to pick up these precious babies and drove them back home in a rental car over three days. They're from the same ferretry Wasabi was from when we got him as a baby way back in 2018, and incredibly, Wasabi is actually the great great uncle of one of the boys! I'm so excited to tell you more about them, their personalities, and of course, their names! So keep an eye out here. More Book Ferret Joy is coming soon.
