Actually Fredo, looking back over that post, it's not very helpful, so here's a little guide:
Scope out the place to see where they have cameras and try to find a blind spot (they almost always have one, our B&N used to have one in the religious section).
Flip through EVERY page of the book you want to steal to see if it has a magnetic strip in it. It'll either look like a big square thing that has a thin thing of metal spiraling towards its middle, or it'll be a thing rectangular strip that gets stuffed in the folds of pages. That's why you have to look carefully.
If you find a strip, just take it out and put it behind a book or something. If not, you're good to go anyway.
Then go to that blind spot, looking around for employees and customers along the way. If you think there won't be any coming towards you anytime soon, just drop the books in a bag or something.
For the most part, the sensors don't even do anything (a lot of B&N's don't even have functioning ones; they're just there to intimidate), so just walk out of the building. Just try to not look suspicious.
That's how I always did it and it seemed to work well. Then again, full disclosure, I'm white so I have an extreme advantage in doing stuff like this in the first place. I also dress like a preppy private college kid from the 60s, so no one suspects me in the first place. So if you do steal books, do it at your own risk. I do totally support it thought.
I think Bolano wrote a really great tribute to the aesthetics of stealing books. I should try and find that sometime.
