hunger games spoilers and whatnot

here's the thing people -- if you're going to make a post about how katniss was a "stupid fucking cunt" to peeta and how she was not a real hero because she could never make up her mind about the two dudes lusting after her or anything else and that the whole series sucked because protecting prim was pointless -- you clearly did not understand anything about katniss or that series and especially to call her the aforementioned insult earns an instant unfollow from me.

katniss is a 17-year-old girl in the middle of a brutal and ridiculous war fighting for her own survival and happiness, and for the survival and happiness of her family. she is incredibly flawed, which makes her a real person. that katniss didn't rise to the occasion of being a naturally born, wonderfully motivated rebel leader was an example of the strategics and war-mindedness of BOTH SIDES OF THE WAR, sides that were ultimately vying for power and control.

katniss did not choose her fate. it was one she was forced into. the rebels were not the completely moral good guys fighting to bring down the capitol. we're talking about a district that peaced out and laid low while the rest of their districts suffered at the hands of the capitol and then pushed in and did what they wanted without giving two shits about the loss of human life because they just wanted to take over. obviously there should be a rebellion against the capitol, but that doesn't make the entire rebellion that did happen well-intentioned. and katniss became a pawn in the game of the rebellion just like she became a pawn in the hunger games and in the games the capitol played. THAT'S the point. she had no control over her life or her fate. she got forced to play parts in the games of those in power, parts that she did not sign up for. she tried to do what she thought was right at the time, and she kicked ass most of the time, but the point is that she was USED throughout the whole series to fulfill larger purposes that she didn't sign up for -- so no, obviously she was not going to rise to the occasion, because she's katniss and she's stubborn and rebellious and doesn't appreciate being used regardless of the cause.

and the gale and peeta shit really just pisses me off tbh. playing at being in a relationship with peeta was yet another thing she was forced into while in the games. i don't blame peeta for that, but she had absolutely no obligation to be all sweet and loveydovey to him because he loved her and wanted to be with her. she acted in love FOR THEIR OWN SURVIVAL. she had no fucking CHOICE in the matter. if she wasn't being used as a pawn in the hunger games who needed to win sponsors' sympathy for items NECESSARY TO HER (AND PEETA'S AND POSSIBLY HER FAMILY'S) SURVIVAL, the pretend romance wouldn't have happened. period. she's not a horrible manipulative bitch, she's a girl attempting to navigate her fucked up and dangerous reality. she's a girl confused about her feelings because of this pretend romance she's trapped in and because she's afraid of hurting the best friend she's had her whole life. i'm sorry, but that is fucking normal. SHE'S A GOD DAMN TEENAGER WHO HAS MORE PRESSING THINGS ON HER MIND. she doesn't owe either of those guys anything, she has no obligation to even PICK ONE. yeah, eventually she ends up with peeta, great. but that's when she's finally certain about her feelings and ready to even have that kind of thing going on in her life. there's nothing fucking wrong with that.

i'm not saying katniss is a total perfect angel, i'm just saying that her actions were for the most part justified and otherwise the result of a normal, flawed, teenage girl confused about what to do but trying to do what was right at the time. if you don't find her likable idk what book you were reading because that katniss is way more relatable than a picture perfect katniss who never wavers in what must be done and excels at everything and knows exactly how to handle the men in her life and knows from the beginning who, if anyone, she wants to be with and makes that clear.

also just as a parting note anyone who's going to hate on katniss for the love triangle shit can eff off because she really doesn't owe shit to any dude and she has no obligation to pick or be with anyone. this was a story about KATNISS, the girl on fucking fire. this was not a story about KATNISS and the dilemma of which boy should i pick?! if that's what you were homing in on i think you missed the fucking point.
