the problem with late stage Carrot is he turns into a Dorothy Dunnett protagonist
A Dorothy Dunnett “protagonist,” is he

reaperman was too excellent of a book to be marred by the stripmall scenes and it's very tragic
haven’t read reaper man in eons but I have to confess that while I obviously found the a-plot touching and deeply meaningful, I... fucking love Windle Poons. And for that matter. the Area X stripmall. And Pratchett’s anti-suburb agenda. Holy shit, sorry, I JUST put the pieces together on the fact that the stripmall ruined Annihilation for me ten years in advance, don’t mind me.

ajkhasdkh my problem now is I can’t decide which of them is the drag performer in disguise and which of them is the mafia boss having a sexuality crisis
because you could probably make it work either way??
anyway I got halfway into imagining it and my brain turned up yurio performing CHICAGO, ILLINOIS in a ridiculous dress and a screechy voice and I just expired.

a.) I STAND BY IT b.) and also the book in which the Watch have to road trip around the disc to chase a litter of kidnapped puppies with significant birthmarks, getting sidetracked by various other distressed puppies along the eay, would probably be better than Snuff
Stop omg I’m not ready for Carrot’s gay cousin who has been plotting incredibly passively to steal his estate across 50 YEARS

Favourite underrated character?
JORNE OF SNOWTRAK SYNERGIES but for a less niche answer, Jerboa.
Favourite quote?
Um. IC, either jar full of bees speech or something Hitchcock said that I’ve since forgotten; OOC, “That quote-unquote ‘brother’ is causing a whole lotta problems!”
Favourite moment from Twilight Mirage?
Grandmag and Fourteen and Advent’s stupid warehouse showdown! Sadly! Still!
Gotta just… stare down the barrel of yuletide season……
I can't reply to posts on my phone but the Kay and Mordred Murder Mystery Road Trip is called Idylls of the Queen and IS AMAZING. Mordred dramatically announces that he's totally ready for Kay to murder him at multiple points throughout the book. Kay: hmm. My nephew seems to have some emotional fragilities.
The Siege Perilous is empty because Heaven allows no one else except Galahad to sit there, and Galahad only used it a few days before going off to his Grail and holy death. That Siege Perilous has been useless lumber for most of its existence, a permanent gap with a golden chain stretched from arm to arm across its seat to prevent accidents. We used to debate whether the chair was deadly in itself or because of its position at the Table—if it were removed, and another chair put in its place, would fire still fall on whoever sat in the new chair at Lancelot’s right hand, or would it fall on anyone who sat in the old Siege Perilous wherever that was placed, or would it fall on both chairs, or on neither? But although it is fine and noble to risk a few hundred men’s lives at a tournament, it has never been judged worth the risk of one man’s life to find out whether, by substituting another chair for the Siege Perilous, we could fill the gap and gain another Companion of the Round Table. (An animal would be worthless for the test. We used to have an old brindled cat in Carlisle that loved to jump up under the chain and nap on the Siege Perilous during our conferences. No one dared put his hand near the chair to touch her, but the dumb beasts are apparently absolved of evil intent in the sight of Heaven.)
belatedly: I love this story
🔥 i have now finished counter/weight finally so the path before me has been prepared
FOR MY UNPOPULAR COUNTER/WEIGHT OPINIONS??? Becca at this point my unpopular overall c/w opinion is just like “it’s the best thing they’ve done pending TM’s completion and way better than marielda.” Because I’m horrible. Um, but, I, uh, I guess things like “the finale is a hot mess because they introduced Divines, the cutest concept ever, and then couldn’t think of anything to do with them other than a weird popular-consciousness shift where humans THREW OFF THEIR SHACKLES and realized that GOD IS JUST A GUN, which like, fine, 0k, except, the oppressive thearchy isn’t real, it’s not an actual thing, so I felt nothing, and also you’ve taken the linchpin of your worldbuilding and told me that it’s a gun! actually! so I feel nothing.” Also, September remains very confusing and Austin should have workshopped the “divines can make a door to nowhere” save a little longer in advance. Also too many things turned out to be divines at the end
…You read my fic so you may already be familiar with this overwhelming grievance… um. I. I think Orth is very cute but only truly bearable in the context of like, him getting everything he wanted in the background of protag suffering, if he had had even a fractionally more serious arc/more screentime I would have lost it. But I love him! But I would have lost it. Thank god they didn’t convincingly found family anyone but instead shuffled off to die separately and in deep disappointment
