at some point early in the Chime's history Cass asks to borrow a shirt and Aria, having a shit ton of spare merch filling her closet, unthinkingly tosses them a joypark shirt and they look at the logo and look back at Aria and go through a disco elysium style decision tree where they try to think of how to diplomatically remind Aria what joypark was built on top of and ask for a different shirt, and instead fail the check and just say: "i think id rather kill myself than wear this actually"
i think part of why counterweight works is that rigour isn’t the source of all ills. rigour is capitalism but it isn’t just capitalism it’s also exploitation of labor in general, and it isn’t the origin of capitalism or the only reason it exists—society is plenty shitty and exploitative before it wakes up, and has been since before it was made. the sign and signifier stand side by side. and it also understands that killing the monster is only the beginning. i feel like a lot of the-monster-is-capitalism make that the only source of those problems when it’s so much more insidious than that.
for the glory of OriCon

"I think that Cass thought this is always where he’d come back. That this was his fate. Not his destiny. His fate."
