So the other day I was talking to Ms @weshallc about how we are here because of our interest in CtM fanfic, but how we all certainly differ a lot in our taste regarding what else we enjoy reading. Because I thought a lot about it this morning, I am going to just post a few questions because I am just curious. If you’d rather message me directly than post publicly, you’re very welcome.
More under the cut so as not to spam your dashes.
Which kinds of genre/s do you generally read?
Do you finish books you do not like or not?
Which books are there that have a special meaning for you?
Which medium do you prefer?
5 Books you enjoyed most recently
1. Which kinds of genre/s do you generally read?
I love novels, especially ones teaching me something about history and/or other societies and places. I love looking up the details on Wiki and learning more about the background. I like novels which have a family history plot; e.g. where more generations of a family are portrayed across time.
I occasionally read romance, but I prefer a bit more gritty or gruesome and even violent plots such as war or political oppression.
Biographies are another genre I like, especially ones about musicians and writers. And I like journalistic non-fiction about other places and travelogue.
In general I have gotten a bit weary of reading novels with male protagonists but luckily.
2. Do you finish books you do not like or not?
I used to force myself through books until one day I decided that it was not worth the little time I have on earth. I rather enjoy what I read (unless I have to, sometimes I do for work).
3. Which books are there that have a special meaning for you?
As a teen I loved the books of John Irving and for many years I dreamed of visiting New Hampshire and Maine one day. A few years back I did and I loved it. I occasionally reread “A Prayer for Owen Meany” and “The Cider House Rules” and hope to visit again some day.
I read Christa Wolf’s “They divided the sky” once while I was travelling on my own for three weeks and it perfectly fit my melancholy mood at the time, and I often remember the feelings attached. I think I should reread it soon.
4. Which medium do you prefer?
I will always prefer the “real” physical paper book over anything electronic.
But atm I read mostly on my iPad because it is easier to read at night when you can’t switch on the light in the bedroom. Also, it is handier while travelling and I have an app for borrowing ebooks from my local library.
I never read books on my phone, it is no fun to me. But I read almost all fanfic on my phone.
5. 5 books I enjoyed most recently (there are a lot more, but I wanted to keep it at reasonable length)
Yaa Gyasi, “Homegoing”, one of the cleverest plot ideas I have read in a long time
Elif Shafak “Honour”, set in England and Anatolia and the most amazing plot twist I’ve come across in the recent time
Colson Whitehead “The Underground Railroad”, made me look up a lot of history
Souad Mekhennet “I was told to come alone” WaPo reporter covering terrorism since 9/11
John Williams “Butcher’s Crossing”, yes, male protagonists, but awesome description of scenery
I’ve no books to put out because they are all in packing boxes but I do have this little kitty from a certain graphic novel series, anyone know which one? It looks great beside my new #peacelily which is one of two. As I’m a huge fan of #hotfuzz, the plant is called Nicolas and it’s partner is called Danny! #guesswhichbook #bookquestions #comics #graphicnovels #plants #plantsofinstagram #plantsandfunkos #funkopop #funko #funkouk #plantpals https://www.instagram.com/p/CPla7wsLJJR/?utm_medium=tumblr
As I’m reading get a life Chloe Brown, it got me thinking about some of my favorite female character leads in a few books that I’ve read. I know that Rin from The Poppy war trilogy is definitely on my list. The Bronx, from the city we became by N.K. Jemisin also comes to mind as well. Who are some of your favorite female characters in some of your favorite let me know in the comments ✨ : : #bookquestions#bookishthoughts#readingbook#bookingforfun#bookphotography#booksbooksbooks#noshelfcontrol#bookloversofig#bookshelves#readingnooks#bookishaesthetic#prettypic (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/COdBtWFL1hI/?igshid=1wle3s0fudg62

Do you ever read a book and wish you had written it? Or that you've had an idea so similar that in another world you could have written this book? (Don't panic, I'm not about to compare myself to VE Schwab) The Archived series is that for me. I adore these books. • Which books do you wish you had written? • #bookish #bookquestions #bibliomania #bibliophile #favouritebooks #veschwab #thearchived #theunbound #thedarkvault #bookpages #booktography #booksaboutbooks #literarythoughts #reader #readthisbook #qotd #paperbackbooks #yaauthor #favouriteauthors #igreads #bookgram #bookcollection (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIG64fkgITN/?igshid=sgoih8buowvs

"If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all." - Oscar Wilde. Controversial to the last. • Are you a re-reader or a only read books once kind of person? I will only not re-read a book if I didn't like it. I frequently re-read instead of discovering new books actually 😂 • #books #booktalk #bookquestions #readinghabits #oscarwildequote #authorquote #oscarwilde #rereading #rereadworthy #whattoread #readerlife #booknerdproblems #igreads #booktography #openbook #allthebooks #bookishcommunity (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_lImtcgSy5/?igshid=x3im62h7ltqa
I am reading Anger Is A Gift by Mark Oshiro and I’m wrecked and I have all the hopeless rage and sadness like with real shootings but I can’t do anything because this one is fictional. And a little bit I don’t know how much I’m allowed to feel/interact because I’m a white girl from the Midwest which means I have basically nothing in common with Moss or Javier and them at all except we’re teens. This book wasn’t written for me. How do I respect that and also acknowledge my emotional response?
