PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION: ALEXANDRA NAUGHTON RETURNS FOR FALL READINGS Summer is a time to unwind. It's also a time to discover, to think, and to write. After announcing a performance hiatus in June, Bay area poet Alexandra Naughton of Richmond, California spent her summer writing, reading, and doing non-poetry related things. She didn't really get much time to relax. "I love performing. Live readings are how we get the opportunity to interact with other writers and meet people who care about literature." But readings can be grueling, too, especially after a long work day, traversing the Bay by bicycle, rushing from office to washroom to train stop and then on to the gig. The high points are always the readings themselves, coupled with listening, and socializing with many of the Bay's most promising talent. The low points include trying to catch that last train home and getting enough sleep for the next day... then doing the very same thing every other night for months. "I love it, but it's hectic," says Naughton. "I needed to recharge my batteries. I took the whole summer off from performing and concentrated on reading and research. I did some creative projects, I helped make a film with my friend in Los Angeles, and saw some old friends". She pauses. "I actually did perform a couple of readings, one was booked months in advance, but the others were on the fly, more or less, and often by happenstance."
