“Amelia Gillette (Writer, Seasons 7 and 8):Nothing on TV was like The Office back then. The comedy was small and it was dry. The people looked like real people, which was a rare thing, especially for a sitcom. It proved that you could do something romantic without being dramatic, and even though there is this artifice of it being a documentary that tricks you into thinking it’s real.”

“Ricky Gervais: I remember they tested it and Greg Daniels sent me a disappointed e-mail saying, ‘It scored very low.’ I wrote back, ‘Congratulations! The [UK] Office tied with women’s bowling for the lowest test score ever and we didn’t change a thing.’ And I said to him, ‘That’s a good sign. Anything to do with innovation suffers on the test score because people go, ‘That’s not what I expected.’ They mark it down because it’s not like the sitcoms they thought it was going to be. You can’t let that stop you.”

“Stephen Merchant: At some point it goes beyond you. We used to talk about it like it’s Frankenstein’s monster. You’ve created it, but then it just has to go off and rampage across the countryside on its own because you can’t kind of control it anymore.”

Sophomore year of college a friend introduced me to The Office (it had me at stapler in jello), I then showed my family the first season and got them hooked, one year I got all my college roommates Dundies for christmas (we also managed to get the lone hold out roommate that year hooked on the show), and I now make that’s what she/he said jokes more than I ever thought I would. Reading this book, and getting all the back stage stories was So Awesome (Creed wrote two albums while on the show?!) and definitely took me back to a younger, and possibly simpler time (Downer house I miss you). Jim and Pam’ll always be my OTP, and I want a copy of Pam’s watercolor of the office building. #Bookstagram #WhatIRead #TheOffice #ThatsWhatSheSaid #BoomRoasted #RedditExchange #RedditGiftExchange #RedditGifts #RedditCultMovieExchange #Reddit
