Thursday Spin time! #lessthanjake #bordersandboundaries #railroadrecords #distro
I don't feel like routine right now, I feel like taking off, getting lost in somewhere that isn't "home" and coming across someone or something that makes me feel like I have a new one.
I will include snippets of personal journal entries to give a subjective sense of the theme and implications of self, opening a window to myself that would usually be private. Without over-using reference to the theme, this is my way of lowering the borders, opening my boundaries and trying to feel "real."
Whilst looking through these shots I was contemplating ideas of the self being tainted by emotion (something that I know personally resonates with me) and I distorted these 2 images of my own portrait to encapsulate that. The Red tinting was used to represent intensity of emotion and the mind and the seductive nature of self-destruction; it's twisted appeal. Tweaking the opacity of each image I layered them together, making one deliberately disproportionate to the other to obstruct the view and make the eyes of whoever sees it question the image.
how light changes the face.
After watching this video I was inspired to experiment with the impact that light and shadows have on the face. I'm going to use portraiture and artificial light to create a timeline/moving image to indicate and show the subtle changes in appearance of the model, which also links back in my mind to my exploration of shadows & dark and the borders between physical matter and 'substance' that seemingly exists yet has no mass. The theme of other people's boundaries also comes to mind, documenting up close their facial expressions and how they may change- sometimes easy to read and often a disguise. In this intense lighting, these inner things can also be exposed.
For my first experiment I decided to use self-portraiture to explore changes in my own facial appearance, not only to observe the set up but also to try and give myself a sense of identity as often my self-awareness is distorted; borders of my own.
