Didn't know Doctor Doom was a magic user! Please elaborate more on this?? :o
Victor Von Doom's parents were Werner Von Doom (doctor/healer) and Cynthia Von Doom (magic user/witch) of the Latverian Romani, Zefiro Clan.
Fantastic Four (1961) Annual 2
When he was a baby/small child, his people were struggling under the persecution/oppression of the ruling class of their country, his mother made a bargain with Mephisto for the power to defeat those who harmed/oppressed her people however Cynthia was tricked by Mephisto, instead of just killing the Baron's men she lost control and killed Latverian children, she rejects Mephisto power which left her vulnerable and was killed by a guard and her soul was taken by Mephisto to be tormented in Hell. As she died she makes her husband promise not to let her son go down her path.
Books of Doom #1
Werner raises his son, but one day the Baron's wife was sick, he couldn't heal her and so he fled since the Baron wanted him dead for failing. He and Victor are caught in a snow storm and he dies protecting his son. Victor has lost both his parents because of the Baron and vows to avenge them. Later he learns his mother's soul is trapped in Hell.
Fantastic Four (1961) Annual 2
Triumph & Torment / Books of Doom #1
Victor find his mother's books and tools, and learns magic. He goes to America to study, tries to build a portal to hell to save his mother but it backfires horribly on him. (Fantastic Four (1961) #5)
Books of Doom #1
After the Incident he travels the world, learning more magic and seeking more power. Victor returns to Latveria to lead his people in a revolt against the corrupted ruling class and he makes himself King.
Doctor Doom is aided by Boris, his most faithful friend, and then spends 1 night a year, every year for a long time, in a fight against Mephisto; if Victor wins then he will get to free the soul of his mother. However he loses. Many times. Until he finally frees her in Triumph & Torment.
Astonishing Tales (1970) #8
Victor Von Doom is a very powerful magic user in the Marvel Universe, however he is also a brilliant scientist, he often combines both magic & science to achieve his goals.
This is INCREDIBLY interesting to me. Did Doom sacrifice his mother’s love for him, just to free her soul? Was his plan that many steps ahead? Would he really do such a thing? Such a good story...
