HE SOUNDS SO HAPPY
Little shipping cluster of thoughts
I like Schweiger and Karl as a couple, but I also like Beth and Karl as a couple. However, what really makes sense to me and what makes me happy is—Schweiger and Boris.
Since ZAT they've had such a... unique dynamic. Not a smart-stupid dynamic (considering both men are overzealously intelligent in their own ways), but, like this. They both look up to one another, in different ways, in different settings and situations.
Throughout ZAT's cutscenes you can see Schweiger lagging behind or looking lost, yet Boris is always there; patting his back or nodding at him. Schweiger is at the end of it all—a civilian. He looks up to Boris, the way he handles things, the way he's not tired all the time, the way he can keep going, can keep killing, can keep surviving, can keep his eyes on everyone, can just do it. He sees how loyal he is, how considerate in his own little ways, his own little quirks and gestures. And falls for him.
Schweiger looks up to Boris in a very direct way. Boris is grounded in the moment, brave, can adapt, has the intuition to hack a situation in chunks rather than intellect his way around it. He knows there's a job to be done and he does it.
Yet, Boris also looks up to Schweiger. Schweiger is intelligent, sweet, private. Even the sinister glint of his glasses hides his eyes at all times. Schweiger can think. He does not lose himself like Boris, just moving his body and going along with what is given. He bends the rules. He creates his own rules. He spends the time to take a step back and to sketch a plan in graphite and ink rather than blood and sweat. He might be slower, yet that makes him more diligent. He might be feeble, yet equally as brutal and useful. He might not be between everyone's feet, but he always has their back.
(as illustrated by the goddamn loading menu!)
Schweiger understands what's going on. Schweiger understands his team, is the first to fire them with ideas and the quickest to cool them down. He observes their differences and plans their approach accordingly. Schweiger is so fucking collected and it makes Boris go nuts. Schweiger is the hearth he wants to curl around at night, when his body is beaten and his thoughts tree-stumps floating inside him.
Schweiger knows himself as much as Boris knows his own self and Boris is smitten. Boris is the muscle that slashes his ways through the thick corpses, Schweiger is what keeps him collected and navigates his blows.
*a zombie, lightly slapping Boris in a Venetian street*
Boris, his muscles enormous: you PUNCH boris? you punch his body like sandbag? oh! oh! electrical fist for zombie! electrical fist for zombie with One Thousand Watt!!!!
*punches zombie and it explodes*
